As we get ready for the 2021 Baseball season, we will be looking at different Mets prospects. Today, Harol Gonzalez.
Starting
Pitcher, Bats Both, Throws Right, DOB 3/2/1995, Signed by the New York Mets as
an International free agent on March 26, 2014.
Last time we saw Harol was last year in the
Dominican Winter League where he went 0-2; 5.52 ERA; 6 Games; 14.2 innings, 25
hits, 11 runs, 9 earned, 7 walks, 12 Ks.
That was coming off a big bounce back year in
2019 for Binghamton and Syracuse. For Double A Binghamton he went 6-4
with a 3.14 ERA in 17 games. This included
a combined a no hitter with Ryder
Ryan in May 2019.
Unlike other pitchers that struggled with the
call up to Syracuse in 2019, Harol was one their best pitchers going 6-0 with a
2.68 ERA in 8 games.
This was after a tough 2018 season, Harol
pitched in St. Lucie, Las Vegas and Binghamton in 2018 but his 2018 Binghamton
stats were most glaring as he went 0-9 in nine starts with a 7.79 ERA.
He
came in at #29 on our April 2020 Ultimate Prospect List.
Mack had Harol as his #25 Prospect.
Tom had him at #21.
Amazing Avenue and John From Albany had him at #13.

Harol's Gigante numbers were not good. I just wonder if he is just good enough to not make it.
His 2019 Syracuse numbers give us hope that he will be a good depth option in 2021 as he starts fir Syracuse. Think he would be better than trading a prospect with a big upside like they did with Wilmer Font in 2019.
I just wonder why, when the Mets had tons of terrible pitching in 2020, they did not call on Harol then?
Or Kevin Smith before they traded him to Baltimore for Castro.
