The Wilpons are gone - the risk-averse Wilpons....so how about a radical Mets - Yanks trade or two?
Let's get RADICAL.
Michael Conforto would love that stadium porch - how about Conforto for, say, Gleyber Torres?
Put Jeff McNeil in the outfield and Torres at 2B.
After all, Scotty Boras is Conforto's agent, as I recall...who loves very large (costly) deals.
Do that. Then get George Springer.
Maybe lefty bat Andres Gimenez would love that porch, too. Anything that the Yankees can offer us that makes sense? I have no idea. But heck, it's off season. Spin the bottle.
I have not given this much thought - all of about 2 minutes, actually - just spitballin' here, folks.
If you wanted to take trade(s) with the Yanks onto the radar scope of possible again, what trade(s) might you make?

The reason the Mets/Yanks have rarely traded with each other wasn't because of the Wilpons.
It's because neither club wants egg on their face if the deal is a disaster for one side.
Come on! You don't know this?
It's not going to change now just because the owner is Steve Cohen.
True - but would you get egg on your face trading for Torres?
Get less "lefty", and make more room for Springer, who is better defensively.
It's not just one side that's reluctant to trade.
What if the deal works out great for one team?
How do the fans of the other team feel?
You want a team struggling on D to trade our MVP for Torres?
Have you been overdoing the NYE champaigne?
Tom, even with the great season Conforto had contrasted with the mediocre season Torres had, the Yankees are not doing that deal. I think both are potential superstars, but Gleyber has 3 more years of team control, and he plays an elite position.
A trade idea I had prior to the non-tender deadline, was Matz for Gary Sanchez. Both were potential non-tenders, who, I thought, could benefit from a change of scenery.
Would you do Nimmo and Davis for Aaron Hicks?
Herb, I would still do Matz for Sanchez. At which point, Matz would rename himself Whitey Ford Matz, no doubt.
I personally would not even do Nimmo for Hicks straight up. Hicks' average and OBP are in decline and he is 31.
Herb, to your point, that is why I would do Conforto for Torres - team control. I also would not be surprised to see Conforto regress a bit.
Hey Tom, you might do Conforto for Torres (as the Mets' GM) but I don't think Cashman would give it a 2nd thought.
Herb, do the trade and also give Cashman some cash, man!
Kidding aside, I agree.
Oy.
“ I don’t need to be popular, I just need to make good decisions.”
Sounds like something Jeff would have said.
But it’s our new owner
His statement is true, but trite. Break out that checkbook Mr. Cohen, we want to win on 2021. To paraphrase the Wilpons, we need "meaningful November tickertape parades."
Why would the Mets trade their best outfielder for an infielder they don't need? Who then plays RF for the Mets? Nimmo? where are the 30hrs you would lose by trading Conforto?
What the Mets should be doing is having Rosario playing 3B in the Dominican or taking grounders there during the winter break. Playing CF too. BTW, JD Davis should be taking grounders all winter long if he ever wants the 3B job with the Mets.
I would love to see games with Rosario 3B, Gimenez SS, Guillorme 2B, Smith 1B.
