NY
Post: Mets’ series opener with Braves rained out. “A makeup date has yet to
be announced, though manager Luis Rojas said they were looking at the teams’
series from July 26-29 as a likely landing spot for a doubleheader. Taijuan
Walker was set to come off the injured list to make the start Friday for
the Mets, but is now expected to start Saturday’s game, weather permitting.”
NY
Daily News: Taijuan Walker tabbed for Mets’ postponed series opener vs. Braves.
“Walker threw live batting practice on Tuesday at Citi Field and was deemed
ready to rock for Friday night, but Mother Nature had other ideas. Walker’s
return means that each of the Mets’ five most-used starting pitchers are all
healthy again…”
Anthony
DiComo Mets.com: “Continued rain is expected throughout the weekend, but
the teams will attempt to play their nationally televised Saturday night game
as scheduled at 7:15 p.m. ET”
Tim
Healey Newsday: For Mets, a rainout and at least a little more rest. "A
lot of different things that have stopped us along the way," Mets manager
Luis Rojas said, referring to games postponed because of the Nationals’
COVID-19 issues, rain and snow that one time, as well as a game that was
suspended in the first inning by rain. "We just take this as an
opportunity to rest and come back tomorrow with our batteries recharged and
play ball against one of our division rivals."
NY
Daily News: “As Rojas pointed out, one of the silver linings among these
literal rain clouds is the ability to give his bullpen a night off. Jacob
Barnes, Edwin Diaz,
Jeurys
Familia, Robert
Gsellman, Aaron Loup
and Drew
Smith all pitched in Thursday’s doubleheader against the Rockies…“We have a
lot of guys that can close a game, I think.” Rojas opined. “There’s different
guys here who can pitch in high leverage situations. I think it’s just a big
group of guys who have really nasty stuff. They can come in in different
situations of a ballgame, whether it’s early or late.”
NY
Post: Edwin Diaz, Jeurys Familia capably answering Mets bullpen questions. “The
Mets have a 3.48 ERA from the bullpen, which ranked fifth in MLB entering
Friday, showing it has been more than just Familia and Diaz. But that tandem’s
consistency has perhaps lessened the pressure on newcomers Trevor May,
Aaron Loup and Jacob Barnes, allowing the unit to flourish. Another returning
reliever from last season, Miguel
Castro, has solidified the middle innings.”

NY
Post: Pete Alonso may rejoin Mets much sooner than expected. Luis Rojas
thought Alonso
would need a minor league rehab assignment, but the manager said he wasn’t as
convinced of that after watching the slugging first baseman work out Friday. ‘He
looked a lot better than I expected and there is nothing going on [physically],’
Rojas
said”
NY
Post: Jonathan
Villar giving Mets much more than they expected. “He’s been great for this
team,” manager Luis Rojas said…“First of all, our front office getting this
guy, he’s a great National League player. … Everything he’s done defensively,
everything he’s done offensively, from getting game-winning hits, getting an
extra base, stealing a bag, scoring on a contact play from third on a walk-off,
all those things have been extra.”
Matt Netter Mets360: It’s
beginning to look a lot like 2009. Matt looks at the injuries the Mets
sustained in 2009 when the Mets went “a hideous 70-92” and compared it to this
year’s injuries noting: “June is coming and that’s a scary month for Mets fans.
It always seems to be the make-or-break month for this franchise. Let’s hope
this rag tag bunch can stay afloat a few more weeks until we start to piece
together a professional roster again” (Subscription required).

We could use Tyler Pills bat. No joke he was a .301 career hitter in the minors in 245 plate appearances with just 35 Ks. Compare to Maybin.
I never realized he played AAA right field in 2019, hitting .233, so as a pitcher before that, hitting sporadically, he absolutely raked. He is only 30. Call him up. Compare to Maybin, Lee, others.
Luis Rojas says Maybin is staying in for his defense. Say what you want about the lack of hitting by this lineup...they can catch the ball. Don't think you could have said that about the replacements in other years.
Megill - Game 1 starter in Binghamton tonight.
Where is Pill playing?
Pill is not playing. If he was in minors outfield he would probably be second to Mason Williams as a hitter. So...call him up.. Maybe he’d want to, maybe not.
