Newsday: Jacob deGrom will be given some leeway on pitch count when he returns to Mets on Tuesday.  “Mets manager Luis Rojas said there will be no official pitch count for Jacob deGrom’s start Tuesday…The team plans to monitor him throughout his outing and assess the situation as it develops.”

Mets.com: GM Scott talks Mets' injuries, search for help. “Conforto (strained right hamstring) and McNeil (strained left hamstring)…late June as a best-case scenario for those two….Brandon Nimmo (left hand nerve issue) remains sidelined indefinitely as the Mets try to find a way to alleviate his pain…Pete Alonso (the Mets are “shooting for next week,” per Scott)”

Johneshwy, for Pete's sake - why do that?

So, it was worse than I thought - 2 hits heading into 9th, a lead off pinch hit HR from Drury, a pinch hit from Mazeika, one on, none out, one run down. Crickets.

Smith joins Lindor and Maybin in the Hall of Shame.

The regulars still in the line up only seem to be regular when they hit the John, I guess. They're playing like what's produced in the John. Shame on them.

Maybin 0-19 with 11 strikeouts. What's the vaunted analytics department say about that?

Cost $1 and we got ripped off.

The organization needs to respond better than that.

Come July 1, I'd be thrilled to be 5 back in the final WC -- but I think it will be worse than that.

Nice to see McCann put some good swings on the ball.

Has a player ever come up smaller than Lindor?

Looks like Carlos Fiasco is turning into this year's Jed Lowrie. I would be surprised to see him make a start or two in September.

When are you guys going to write about what's actually happened here?

Jeff McNeil injury clearly, obviously mismanaged. He was in, he was out, he was rested, he was back in again -- and now lost for 6+ weeks. What the hell?

Carrasco? It's been all lies all the time. Guy was throwing simulated games, building up arm strength . . . and then shut down completely. "It's not a setback!"

If it's his hammy, they blew it. But I don't believe that. If it's his arm, then they are lying to us. Either way, I'm not confident in how the Mets handled this situation.

It's crazy but Pillar is going to be the first one back.

Why goof around with Davis at 1B in Syracuse?

Villar is the most over-hyped .211 hitter I've ever witnessed. His OBP is .289 and he's leading off. 30 Ks in 109 ABs. I realize he's been useful here and there, but the positive press -- here and everywhere else -- is bizarre and delusional.

Nice to see SportCenter for Mets fans this morning.

Can’t believe BVW was at Citifield tonight. Like being back at the scene of the crime. Who let him in? What’s he doing nowadays?

Was Lindor doing all this hugging stuff in Cleveland?

Jimmy, who would you rather see lead off? Give us your ultimate Mets lineup with the players that are available.

I see many articles about players that can help the Mets now. Britton wrote one, all the blogs have them, but the truth is you can’t get ripped off trying to find a Band-Aid. I’d sign Dee Gordon if he’s better than Maybin, but is he? Trade for Eduardo Escobar, but for what?

Know who is after Maybin on the depth chart for CF? Khalil Lee. I have a feeling Maybin will get two hits tonight.

To the guys that said yesterday the Mets pitchers got hurt swinging, I say BS. Walker stands their like the Eiffel Tower. JdG should lead off tonight.

What's your problem?

The team, right now, is terrible. I didn't say Villar shouldn't leadoff, just that he's wildly overrated all over the Mets Universe. .289 OBP at the leadoff spot is pretty godawful.

The one guy I liked just ran into a wall. He played that way, too, that he'd run into a wall for you. It's never a good plan. I would have given Fargas the leadoff spot, but there's no good answer, obviously. Lindor would be my second choice.

We have six prospects who look interesting: Crow-Armstrong, Alvarez, Baty, Mauricio, Allen, Ginn. Sandy has already traded away Greene and Wolf. With current ownership, it should never again be necessary to make those kinds of trades that Brodie was forced into.

At least we have money to throw at the problem -- and maybe a relief to be named later.

I don't know if there's an outside answer to the current situation. Just hang on somehow and hope we can climb back after the All-Star Break. Given the way we played when healthy, I'm not so sure.

Wait for Pillar, and Davis, and Pete, and hope that Smith and Lindor give us something/anything.

Tebow would have been batting clean up. "Lord, did I hear you right?"

On the topic raised as to whether Jake and Taijuan may have gotten hurt swinging, my recollection is that teams were protecting their pitchers this spring by not letting them swing before a certain point. Swing involved torque, and those are torque injuries.

Pillar would want to suit up tonight.

Leg injuries - clubs need to tell guys to sit longer if they suspect anything. Like the Fram oil filter commercial - you can pay me now, OR PAY ME LATER!

We can be optimists, but if the team averages 2 runs per game over the next month, that sounds like 9-21 to me. Then, when guys do return, it may take time to shed rust.

Again, Fargas, how could you? No one faults you if you pull up on that ball. Then you play the rest of the game, today, tomorrow, the next day - and build a resume. Gotta think ahead and not let instincts and eagerness to please take over. Manager needs to tell them that too, tell them a lot. Full speed runs at walls are a bad recipe.

Jimmy, all I did was ask you for your opinion on a lineup? Was that bad?

If they were to have pitchers play the field, why couldn’t Gsellman pinch run for Mazeika as the tying run? Gman is fast, Mazeika isn’t.

Just be thankful the Mets did not sign Jackie Bradley Jr, too - he is "hitting" .160/.228/.292 in 44 games.
