METS ACQUIRE OF BILLY MCKINNEY FROM MILWAUKEE

FLUSHING, N.Y., May 25, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced they have acquired outfielder Billy McKinney from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league left-handed pitcher Pedro Quintana. RHP Jordan Yamamoto has been transferred to the 60-Day IL to make room on the 40-man roster.

McKinney has appeared in 40 games for the Brewers this season and is batting .207/.260/.359 with nine runs, three doubles, a triple, three home runs, six RBI and a stolen base. He has played 20 games in the outfield and nine games at first base this season.

In 84 games as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019, the Dallas, TX native collected 12 home runs, 14 doubles and 28 RBI.

The 26-year-old was originally drafted in the first round (24th overall) by the Oakland Athletics in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. He has appeared in parts of four seasons with the New York Yankees (2018), Blue Jays (2019-2020) and the Brewers (2021). He is a career .226/.285/.422 hitter with 61 runs scored, 24 doubles, two triples, 21 home runs and 47 RBI in 164 major league games.

Quintana, 17, was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on January 15, 2021.

Hitting .207 he'll fit right in but even with that it has to be better than Maybin/Lee who are 1 for 38 which is really unbelievable 62' Met like.

Beggars can't be choosers.

What happened to Yamamoto to require a 60 day IL status? I missed it.

I approve of this deal. This guy is better than we've got.

Tough situation for the "acting" GM, not a lot available, and this is not the time for a massive overpay in terms of talent for marginal upgrades.

If we could throw money at the problem, OTOH, I'd be in favor of that.

Someone here asked about Lee the other day, if it could hamper his development. I thought it would actually help him, to be around, see the players, realize where he's at. But it's time to end that lesson. He needs to get down to AA -- he sure looks like a AA player to me -- and learn how to recognize pitches. He's been exposed.

Yamamoto was dealing with shoulder soreness before his start with the NY Mets. That is why he did not pitch much in Syracuse the week before the Mets start. I thought he was ok when the Mets brought him up to majors - guess not. Not the best way to handle an injury...again.

Neither Lee nor Maybin would make the '62 Mets.
