Cole Hamels Tryout

I'd make a bid for him if (and only if) Mets scouts think that he still has something left in the tank.

There is only like a little over two months remaining in the regular season. But Cole is a lefty starter with a good track record and he would be the insurance should (God forbid) Jake were to go down for the end part of the 2021 season.

There is no one the Mets would have to trade in order to sign Cole. And Cole could prove not only good at the gate but also be that one guy who wins this ball club a WS.

This nonsense on Kris Bryant. Oy vey already.

Again, this is sort of a NYM type of what I personally call a sideways move. In other words, it isn't the upgrade they may think that it is here.

The three error game with JD has not been forgotten. But maybe it should since one of those throws he made in that game was a typical one hopper into the first base glove as David Wright used to make often.

Get off it man.

Leave JD Davis enough space to prove why I am right here not to give up on him. It's a sideways move. JD is a true power bat and he is hitting like .390 BA at Syracuse right now and for a reason.

I'd take a close look at Cole Hamels

And also address the starting pitching issue at Syracuse. If the Mets don't do the latter, Syracuse Mets fans could be hanging from trees with their tongues hanging out soon. We don't want that. A win for that team is cause for a parade lately in Syracuse. It's like the 1962 NYM when Casey pinch hit in a game in the team's final at bat!

Ideal Situation:

Mets like what they see in Hamels, sign him ahead of the lowly NYY for the rest of the 2021 season through the WS win. Develop for August (sometime) righty newbie right starter/reliever Kumar Rocker and get the man a couple of starts up with the parent Mets, so that maybe he could be useful for this stretch run too. The kid is "all Broadway" and outgoing with confidence, and he should adjust easily to the show here and the crowd of cheering fan support.

Then make some "sort of secondary moves" that could conceivably factor in soon, like acquiring a young lefty AAA level starter, and perhaps too a young lefty set-up man more. Could get a Darren O'Day from the lowly NYY as well. He's a veteran but he has solid experience in races.

To my eyes, this Kumar Rocker is sort of like Jenrry Mejia was when Jenrry first came up here. But Kumar actually has more talent and skills, plus the composure it takes to excel.

In MLB it takes a starter three excellent pitches to be really successful. Kumar has the fastball and the cutter, he just needs one more outstanding pitch like maybe a change up. I really like this kid's chances. He just has to stay within himself and stay focused to allow good things to naturally happen for him. I think he will.

Imagine Mets fans, if both Kumar Rocker and Franklyn Kilome could be ready by the middle of August for here?

Kilome is hurt and has been slow to come back. Hopefully he can get back on the field soon.
