They’ve been bad against good pitchers. They’ve been bad against bad pitchers having good games. But on Friday they were bad against a starter who had absolutely nothing.”

Tim Healey Newsday: The Mets called Lindor’s issue right side soreness, and manager Luis Rojas said after the game that he had no update beyond that Lindor is scheduled to undergo tests Saturday morning.

1979
At Seattle's Kingdome, Pirates outfielder Dave Parker, who cuts down Brian Downing at home with an amazing throw, is named the All-Star Game's MVP when the National League wins its eighth straight Midsummer Classic. In the 7-6 victory over the Junior Circuit, Mets outfielder Lee Mazzilli homers to tie the game in the eighth, and then walks in the ninth to bring in the eventual winning run.

1993
Southpaw Frank Tanana becomes the second of only two pitchers, along with Rick Reuschel, to give up a home run to both Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds when the Giants' left fielder takes him deep for the lone run he gives up in the Mets' 3-1 victory at Candlestick Park. In 1976, Hank Aaron, finishing his career with the Brewers, hit a three-run homer, the 748th of his then-record 755 round-trippers, off the left-hander, who was pitching for the Angels at the time.

2016:  In another excellent pitching performance, Jacob deGrom tosses a one-hitter as the Mets defeat the Phillies, 5 - 0. Only a 3rd-inning single by P Zach Eflin keeps deGrom from making history.

When are the Mets going to promote the Syracuse hitting coach Joel Chimelis? I think it needs to be considered.

Syracuse sure is hitting. And no one more than Khalil Lee: .321/.558/.679 in July. A Barry Bonds on base %.

Vientos? Wow. 13 HRs in last 91 at bats. .340 with 30 RBIs in that stretch. He is making the case for being their # 1 prospect?

Lefty Josh Walker - 8-1 this year - not in top 30? Why? John, how does he compare to Szapucki, ranked 10th?

John From Albany said...

Szapucki was a stud coming out of college (which is why he has been ranked so high over the years) - Megill and Walker not as much. Desmond Lindsey (2nd round draft pick) was ranked high by many right up to his release. The cream rises to the top - that's why Megill is in Flushing and Walker is on the way. Note Lorenzo Bundy said he though Walker and Mitchell would be the next two Minor League Mets to break into the majors. Mitchell now in Syracuse. walker may join him soon.
