Mack - Draft Thoughts: Josh Kasevich, Jonathan Cannon, Termarr Johnson, Noah Schultz, Dominic Hellman

 

8-13-21 - ProspectsLive - Sleeper Breakout Candidate - 

JOSH KASEVICH, SHORTSTOP, OREGON 

Kasevich is flying under the radar a bit being hidden on the West Coast and not participating in the Cape Cod League this summer. But if his 2021 campaign is any indication, this is a name to know toward the top of the 2022 MLB Draft. 

At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Kasevich is a strong, athletic infielder with a quick bat. In 55 games for the Ducks this season, he slashed .324/.397/.444 with four homers. More importantly, Kasevish posted a 9.5 percent K-rate and a similar walk rate. His 87 percent contact rate is elite. The Palo Alto, Calif. native is playing in the Northwoods League this summer where he’s terrorized the opposition slashing :

Very good defense, great hitter.

 8-12-21 - Talking Chop - Georgia Prospects -

 Jonathan Cannon, RHP, Georgia -

 If Ross isn’t the Bulldogs Friday night guy it would be because Jonathan Cannon brings a ton of experience. Cannon was a potential Top 50-75 pick this year but health reasons held him back a bit in his debut in the rotation. Cannon went out and pitched three very strong outings in the Cape to prove his stock is pointed back in the right direction. Given another year with full health he can put himself back to the range he started this year.

Feels like Cannon has been around for a decade. I followed him since he was a sophomore in high school. 

2021 stat line - 13-G, 12-starts, 4-2, 3.98, 63.1-IP,  57-K, 13-BB

He and Ryan Webb anchored the Bulldogs Friday/Saturday lineups last season.

8-10-21 - Shooter Hunt @ShooterHunt

 ‘22 SS Termarr Johnson (GA) getting the evening slate started with this MISSILE to the wall in LC for a LOUD double. Zero issue left-on-left. Continues to shine as a marquee performer in the class.

8-8-21 - BA  -

 Noah Schultz, LHP (Illinois)

 A 6-foot-9, 220-pound lefthander, Schultz is one of the tallest pitchers in the 2022 class, but he has shown standout athleticism and body control that make him a dangerous southpaw with stuff and the ability to harness it and throw it for strikes. It’s common for very tall pitchers—especially those who are still teenagers—to struggle to repeat their deliveries, stay in sync and put the ball over the plate, but Schultz did all of that at PG National and the PDP League.

 He works out of a half windup and throws from a sidearm slot, which creates a tough angle in its own right but is only magnified due to his height and long levers.

 The Vanderbilt commit has a three-pitch mix with a fastball that has been in the 89-93 mph range with running life, a mid-70s breaking ball with plenty of spin and sweeping depth and a straight change in the 78-80 mph range that he uses less frequently than his fastball/breaking ball combination. Schultz’s breaking ball will back up on him to his arm side at times, but looks like a real weapon that should always be a pain for lefthanded hitters, and he’s shown an impressive ability to spot and land the pitch.

 8-5-21 - Prospects Live 

 Dominic Hellman

 The only thing I have to say about Dom Hellman after witnessing his explosive round of BP is “Wow”. Hellman absolutely peppered the left field seats and back wall at Tropicana field during his batting practice and he did it with a wood bat. While other players, who are strong in their own right, put one or two over the wall during their rounds, Hellman was stacking streaks of dingers like he was playing the Homerun Derby mode in MLB the Show. It was truly a sight to behold that captivated anyone and everyone in attendance. This is was 80-grade raw power looks like.

A 6-6, 220 pound brute with Dave Kingman type power.

This could be one of the prizes in this draft.

I'm very high on him early and have him as my 3rd 3Bman.
