Open Thread - Whom Should Mets Get? Who Should DH?

Veteran Macks Mets reader and deep thinker Gary Seagren asks:

WHO DO YOU WANT AT THE TRADING DEADLINE?

So, don’t just sit there - SPILL!  The Mets need HELP!  NOW!

Secondly, Gary notes the Mets DH spot is scuffling, and asks:

Do you want Dom or JD there? If not either of them, whom?

Trading Deadline

I want the Mets to trade Dom Smith, JD Davis, and Ronny Mauricio for a proven currently successful lefty reliever and a DH power bat.

I want JD gone.

And Ronny too?

How much value doesVientos have? Him and Davis for Contreras and Robertson? The two for Aguilera and one of Marlins relievers?

How about JD forNelson Cruz?

I feel as if NYM have no desire to trade top prospects for guys like Castillo/Montas,etc. I’m not sure if Mauricio alone as the centerpiece in a package would be enough to land one of those SP. What they can do is trade for Merrill Kelly (from AZ ) who has 2.5 yrs under control left at 8.5m each year + a team option at 7m . He’s more of a 3 or 4 starter-type and currently has a 3.32 FIP in 84inn. Wouldn’t make much sense for AZ to keep him around at 33 years old making that type of money for them and NYM can eat that money without given up too much talent. Again, not a big name and they might need a more talented SP, but it is a nice depth option if they wouldn’t want to continue to dip into trading these top prospects . DH option- Josh Bell. He would be a rental and again won’t have to give up much. .319 BA, 2.3fWAR ,151 wRC+ , switch hitter and hasn’t missed a game. RP- Scott Barlow- KC & David Bednar-PIT. Barlow is 29 years old with 2.5 years under control. Has put together a couple solid seasons and has 10 saves this year with a 2.14 era-46%GB. Bednar, 27yrs old- 1.78 era , 12.48K/9 ,4.5 yrs under control which should be pricey in a trade . These relievers won’t be cheap but the bullpen is a major question mark. With these four players, I think NYM won’t have to trade away several top prospects and would comfortably acquire solid players to help in the second half along with the talent they already have .

Great ideas. Short term, Blankenhorn for Smith, swapping places. One is red hot, the other is a comatose current Met.

Tom at this point almost anything is an improvement at DH catcher at 3rd with EE. Their all comatose and I don't get not trying something like what are we waiting for? Try Blankenhorn or Vientos first but to me Alvarez should be next because lets face it he could just DH and work on his defense in the winter but that bat WOW and right about now we could a boost like the one we got in 15' cause this waiting for SP1A and SP1B is getting old.
