Spring Observations by David Jacks

We are over a week into spring training - here are some notable observations from camp.  

Max Scherzer is completely shot - old and washed. If he makes it through 2 months of the season without being bought out I'd be surprised.  

Ronny Mauricio will hit 45 hr's a year, but he doesn't walk enough and probably should be  traded for a pen arm, or keep him because he probably wins ROY. Also he needs more time in the minors, but should definitely break camp with the Mets too.  

Grant Hartwig is more trustworthy then Edwin Diaz and should be the new closer. 

Brett Baty is my father. If he doesn’t break camp with the big club the Mets are clueless. 

Abraham Almonte is fantastic. I’ve always loved him. Also who is Abraham Almonte?

Jeff McNeil got paid and now he clearly doesn't care about baseball. 

David Peterson is our new ace. 

Buck has no idea how to manage a bullpen, my god why did he use Diaz in the third??? Probably because he realizes Nathan Lavender is our new closer. 

Nimmo won’t play a single game this year, not due to injury, but because of a “plan.” 

Vogelbach will weigh 140 pound by seasons end. 

The pitch clock is awesome. I love it, but also - 

The pitch clock sucks - how dare you ruin my 3 hour games!

Guillorme is going to lead the league in errors, not just at his position, but for every player in mlb combined.

Kodai Senga cannot handle a bigger baseball, but also he has a pitch that is not of this  dimension, it is so ungodly that not a single player will make contact with it all year. 

Francisco Alvarez isn’t ready for single A let alone the majors. 

John Curtiss is probably the Mets newest closer. 

Mark Vientos is very good or maybe he’s not good at all, nobody will ever know. 

I’ve always said the most important thing this spring is getting Lorenzo Cedrola some ab’s. Really great to see it happening. 

Tim Locastro should be allowed to drop his bat as the pitch is thrown his way and attempt to steal first base.  

Mark my words, Jimmy Yacobonis. That's it, it's fun to say. Also he's probably the Mets newest closer. 

It’s one week in but if you guys can’t see this stuff you must hate analytics and the eye test and baseball and probably the Mets too. Tune into spring training next week when every observation completely changes.
