Tylor Megill, David Peterson provide Mets with capable depth options

Will Sammon - Tylor Megill, David Peterson provide Mets with capable depth options -

In an early test of pitching depth, the Mets’ options looked capable. Neither dominated, but both offered plenty to like, including some perseverance in key situations. Overall, they showed an ability to step in as decent replacements for roles they were passed over for during the winter.

Megill’s next start is scheduled for the Mets’ home opener — again against the Marlins — Thursday. Of course, it was supposed to be Verlander pitching that day. Verlander has continued to throw lightly and referred to his injury as minor. But though Quintana said Thursday that he hopes to return this season, his timetable remains unclear beyond being expected to miss at least a few months. Even without Verlander in the short term, the Mets will likely still use a six-man rotation at times, Showalter said. Dylan Bundy and Joey Lucchesi, among others, linger as possibilities on the depth chart beyond Peterson and Megill.

The Mets can do worse than Peterson and Megill with their sixth and seventh options. Both pitchers proved as much during the season’s first weekend. For the Mets, that’s a good thing. Because they’re certainly going to continue to be needed.

These 2 need to bridge our next set of internal pitchers

One will definitely take over 100 percent for carassco but we really need both to be in the rotation for the next 3 years in my opinion

Any idea what happened to Christian Scott? He was not on any minor league roster. Is he hurt?

I hope Hamel and Vasil look good at AA and maybe move up to AAA this summer and then they will be part of the consideration for next year. Need to see Lucchesi do better at AAA for him to be consideration. His first start was not good.

Good question.

Have no idea and I'm also looking for Calvin Zeigler

What about Bundy? He’s pitched for Buck.

Bundy unlikely to be ready. He also is a home run generator.
