#74           Landon Schaefer         SS/3B, Fayetteville (AR)

18/years old                     6' 3"                  185

COMMITTED  -  Arkansas

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 50

Few players showed more improvement on the showcase circuit from 2023 to 2024 than Schaefer, and he keeps getting better. He capped his offseason with a strong performance at the World Wood Bat Association World Championship, helping him to continue to climb Draft boards. The son of Arkansas women's basketball associate head coach Todd Schaefer, he's committed to the Razorbacks but should get selected early enough to forego college.

Schaefer has refined his right-handed swing while continuing to add bat speed and muscle to his lean 6-foot-3 frame. As he continues to mature physically and develop as a hitter, he could grow into 25-homer power that plays to all fields. He has a good eye at the plate but tends to get out in front of breaking pitches, so he'll need to make adjustments.

A good athlete for his size, Schaefer possesses average speed and fine instincts on the bases. He has good actions and solid arm strength at shortstop, where he's a sound if not flashy defender. He'll probably slow a bit as he continues to gain strength, so most evaluators project that he'll wind up at third base.

69. Landon Schaefer – SS

HT/WT: 6’3/180 | Bat/Throw: R/R | School: Fayetteville (AR) | Commitment: Arkansas | Age: 18.10

Schaefer, a wiry-framed infielder from the state of Arkansas, is a dynamic athlete who has hit at every stop this summer. He has the makings of a top-of-the-order table-setter with impressive contact rates and a linear swing with a line drive approach to all fields.

He can get a bit disconnected with his swing and has some swing-and-miss, but Schaefer can manipulate the barrel, maintain balance, and adjust his hands to cover the zone well.

His power has grown over the past calendar year and he’s flashed considerable bat speed in batting practice, which points to solid power upside once he’s fully filled out.

Schaefer is a quality defender in the dirt and has the instincts, range, and glove for shortstop. It’s above-average arm strength at the position, as well.

In a pinch, Schaefer can play in the outfield, where he’s gotten some run in center. If Schaefer makes it to college, he’d stay home and play for Dave Van Horn at Arkansas.

2024 National Showcase

Landon Schaefer is a 2025 SS/3B with a 6-3 180 lb. frame from Fayetteville, AR who attends Fayetteville. Long and lean athletic build with some present strength and room for plenty more. 6.83 runner in the sixty. Primary shortstop on defense, is light on his feet and gets to his spots well, longer arm action with nice carry on his throws, higher arm slot, can see him moving to third base if he keeps filling in and getting stronger. Right handed hitter, starts from a narrow base, has a quick and well connected swing, swings hard, can impact the ball hard with carry, repeats his timing well, picked up a couple of game extra base hits, bat is going to play. Good student, verbal commitment to Arkansas.

Schaefer has the tools to remain at shortstop in college or could move to third base. He has good balance at the plate and generates a lot of power to all parts of the field as a right-handed hitter. He gets to take the field with two other Razorback signees in outfielder Jaison Delamar and pitcher Mark Brissey.

Schaefer looks good, but my guess is he goes to college. Not only does he have a parent coaching there, but Arkansas has a great program so he can continue to improve there. Bigger money awaits this young fellow.
