For Discussion - Reid Garrett

Reed Garrett pitched incredibly well on Friday, as he has throughout this spring:

So far this year, he has put up 5-appearances, giving up one hit and zero runs (0.00, 0.67). This includes six strikeouts and only one walk.

.059-batting average against...

.067 GO/AO

Reed Garret was cooking with gas tonight!

40% whiff rate, four pitches over 100 proStuff+... yeah, that'll play

Garrett was  drafted in the 16th round of the 2014 Draft, out of the Virginia Military Institute.

He pitched for a bunch of teams, including  a 2019 stint for the Saitama Seibu Lions of the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league..

Eventually, he pitched for Washington, who DFA'd him in December 2022. Next came Baltimore, who also DFA'd him in June 2023. The Mets picked him up off of waivers and the rest, as they say, is history.

His pitches include:

Slider - 88-90  Most frequently thrown pitch. 54% in 2024. Two versions... 1) a hard "gyro"with minimal glove-side break...  2) sweeping slider with pronounced horizontal movement.

Spitter - 89  ket secondary pitch.  22% in 2024. thrown hard, natural sink. Wipeout offering.

4-seam Fastball - 97  thrown sparingly. Blazing fast with above-average whiff rate. Produces a fair amount of whiffs too, but Garrett has struggled commanding this pitch.

Sinker - 98  thrown infrequently. Command issues.

Curveball - 86  rarely thrown.

His approach to the game is uncoventional. Leans on slider and splitter and only using fastballs to throw off the hitters,

Me?

He's a lock for my 2025 bullpen.

Your thoughts???

I think Garrett went through his baptism of fire last year, dealing with high pressure situations in high-pressure environment, and as long as he stays healthy, he could be an electric arm in the bullpen.

Is there serious a discussion merited for Garrett’s qualifications? I’d rather talk about trading for Alcantara. Garrett, Nunez, Diaz, Stanek and Butto are among the players that do not need discussion.

And I forgot Minter and Kranick.

I liked Garrett right from the start last year. He did go through some struggles, but made good adjustments and finished good. I am not surprised by his spring performance so far.
