From Press Release:
Four Binghamton hurlers limited Trenton to just seven hits and Brahiam Maldonado provided the punch with a sixth-inning solo homer to propel the B-Mets past Trenton 1-0 in front of a season-best crowd of 5,738 at NYSEG Stadium Friday night. Binghamton has now won back-to-back 1-0 contests and its pitchers have tossed 22 consecutive scoreless innings. B-Mets starter Chris Schwinden set the tone early, striking out the side in the first inning. Trenton righty Hector Noesi, who was fresh off a nine-inning, complete-game win over Binghamton (33-34) in his last start, proved just as good through five innings, dueling Schwinden to a scoreless deadlock. Maldonado, who had singled off Noesi in the third, led off the sixth with a towering blast to right-center, breaking up the shutout bid. It was Maldonado’s second homer of the season for the B-Mets. He was called up from St. Lucie (High-A) prior to the game and impressed with a perfect, 3-for-3 night including a double and the game-winning homer. Schwinden cruised into the seventh, but departed with one out after permitting a single to Luis Nunez. Southpaw Derrick Ellison was summoned to face the next man, left-handed hitting Justin Snyder. Snyder smashed a 2-2 pitch to first where Nick Evans made a fantastic lunging grab on the liner and then took it to the bag at first to double up Nunez, ending the inning. The win ended a personal four-game losing streak for Schwinden, who allowed seven hits over 6 1/3 innings, while striking out five. Ellison tossed 1 1/3 innings before being removed in favor of Emary Frederick, who pitched to one hitter in the eighth to finish the frame. Manuel Alvarez, who saved Binghamton’s 1-0 victory Thursday in Richmond, was called upon to secure the win in the ninth. Alvarez did not disappoint, retiring the side in order, including a strikeout of Jose Gil on a devastating slider to secure the game’s final out. It was the Venezuelan right-hander’s second save in as many chances.
