LAST GAME: In their second double-header in three days, the B-Mets swept a pair of games from Bowie to get back to even on the season. Mike Antonini pitched the B-Mets to a 3-1 victory in the lid-lifter of the win bill with a complete-game effort. The southpaw limited the Baysox to just four hits for his second career complete game. Bowie’s only run came on a second-inning solo homer from Brandon Waring. Binghamton’s
runs also came courtesy of the long ball. Luis Hernandez tied the game in the bottom of the second with his third homer and Kirk Nieuwenhuis pushed the B-Mets over the top with a two-run shot in the third, his ninth. In Game 2, the solid pitching persisted. Josh Stinson notched his first win as a member of the starting rotation, combining with Clint Everts and Roy Merritt on a three-hit shutout. Stinson hurled five innings and struck out a season-best five men. Merritt picked up the save with a scoreless seventh, his sixth. Both of Binghamton’s runs off starter Zach Clark scored on sac flies. Eric Campbell and Nieuwenhuis provided the RBI flyouts.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Eric Niesen will take the bump for his eighth start of the year. He is coming off his finest outing at New Britain June 5, where he tossed six, shutout innings without issuing a walk for his first win. Niesen is 1-2 with a 2.67 ERA over 27 innings. He spent a month on the disabled list with a concussion April 26-May 26. The southpaw led all Mets minor leaguers with 134 strikeouts in 2009. He was the Mets’ third-round choice in 2007 out of Wake Forest and is considered the No. 24 prospect in the Mets farm system by Baseball America.
RHP Lance Pendleton will make his 12th start of the season tonight for the Double-A Yanks. He lasted just four innings in his last go-around June 4 versus Richmond and allowed two runs on five hits in the losing effort. Pendleton is 3-3 with a 3.61 ERA over 57.1 innings. He one-hit the B-Mets over six innings May 14 at Waterfront Park. Pendleton opened the year in the bullpen, but entered the rotation when Christian
Garcia went on the disabled list after his first start of the year. The righty combined to go 12-8 with a 3.14 ERA in 28 appearances (26 starts) last season between Tampa (High-A) and Trenton (AA). Drafted by the Yankees in the fourth round in the June 2005 draft out of Rice University.
