6/11/10

Durham 6, Buffalo 1

From Press Release:

After a four run first inning left the Bisons playing catch-up against the Durham Bulls for the rest of the game last night in a 6-4 loss, the Bulls had a similar start in tonight's game with a four run second inning in a 6-1 Bisons loss. Those early four runs came when catcher Jose Lobaton hit a grand slam in the second inning to give the Bulls a 4-1 lead. Lobaton's grand slam was the first hit by a Bison opponent since Justin Huber of Rochester hit one on August 9, 2009.

Lobaton's four run blast came off of a Dylan Owen 2-0 pitch that was driven to right field for Lobaton's fifth home run of the season. That swing of the bat would be the only damage the Bulls would do on Owen however. Owen pitched six strong innings and besides Lobaton's slam, he allowed no runs. Owen only gave up six hits and matched his career high in Triple A when he struck out seven batters.

Offensively for the Herd there was not much to work with. The Bisons lone run came in the first inning when second baseman Justin Turner scored off of a designated hitter Mike Jacobs single to put the Herd up 1-0 early in the game. The Bisons would collect only three more hits after the first inning and could not drive home any runs as they dropped their fourth straight game.

Turner had two of the Bisons five hits and the other three were collected by Jacobs and catcher J.R House who went 2-3 on the night.

BISONS NOTES: The Bisons will wrap up their four game series with the Durham Bulls and their eight game road trip when left hander Pat Misch (5-1, 3.33 ERA) takes on Aneury Rodriguez (2-4, 3.80 ERA) before returning to Coca-Cola Field for an eight game home stand.
