Minor Mets 101:- Roy Merritt, Emmanuel Garcia, Wilfredo Tovar, F-Mart... and Josh Thole

6-15-10:

-well, it looks like the realignment of the minor league rosters began on Monday with the promotions of OF Lucas Duda, IF Jonathan Malo, and RP Roy Merritt to Buffalo. This coincides placing 3B/1B Mike Hessman on the DL with a hand injury, and demotiong IF Marshall Hubbard to Binghamton and OF Emmanuel Garcia to St. Lucie. None of these represent any super duper prospect realignment, but it seems to have begun the process to get some of the better players in lower levels to move in the right direction. Merritt would be the closest thing to a prospect and ought to be able to excel at this level if he has any chance of going to Queens. Senidng Garcia to St. Lucie gives that team five outfielders, so I would guess that either Brahiam Maldonado or Sean Ratliff will be moving to Binghamton soon, especially since, according to the current roster, they only have two outfielders (Nick Evans and Kirk Nieuwenhuis).

-following up on the above move, Wilfredo Tovar has returned to St. Lucie from the extended camp. Tovar played very well there earlier this season (.275/.301/.364/.664 in 80-AB) when he was called upon for emergency relief. This move moght have been made because of 2B/SS Reese Havens being banged up in Binghamton earlier this week. If true, watch for Josh Satin to bump up to the B-Met.

-well, I’m not going to get excitied about what AAA-CF Fernando Martinez did last night, but a walk-off grad slam is something hard not to write about. Just as important is the fact that AAA-C Josh Thole had two more doubles and now is tied with AAA-3B Mike Hessman for the most doubles on the team. Martinez and Thole are two of the top ten Mets prospects, and wouldn’t it be nice that both of them finish this year strong in Buffalo.

-lastly for tonight, at this point of the season, I look at the record of the Mets and then, I glance at the roster… and you have to give both Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel a lot of credit for the players they signed and the ones they promoted from the minors. The rotation is clicking, the pen is one of the best in the majors, and the team has developed three more prospects in Ruben Tejada, Ike Davis, and Jenrry Mejia. Got give credit when credit is due.
