Gorski Rocks & Offense Rolls in 6-0 Win
BINGHAMTON,NY – Darin Gorski allowed just one hit over six shutout innings and the B-Metsracked up eleven hits in a 6-0 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday nightat NYSEG Stadium. Three B-Mets pitchers limited the Sea Dogs to three hits intheir second shutout win of the season.
Gorski,in his third B-Mets start, started off with a perfect first inning. Thesouthpaw navigated through his only threat in the second. With two outs, Gorskihit Reynaldo Rodriguez and gave up a single to Ronald Bermudez. He escaped thejam by inducing Dan Butler to ground out to second.
Itwas the only time Portland had a runner reach second against Gorski. ThePennsylvania native fired four perfect innings and capped his night by retiringOscar Tejeda to end the sixth. It was the second time this season Gorski hasgiven up one hit and tossed six scoreless innings.
Afterscraping together two hits on Wednesday night in New Hampshire, the B-Mets offensewas alive and well in Binghamton on Thursday. The club tagged starting pitcherBilly Buckner for six hits over five innings. Eric Campbell started the attackwith a two-out run-scoring single in the third.
TravisOzga led off the fourth by launching the first pitch he saw over the right fieldfence, giving Binghamton a 2-0 lead. The drive was Ozga’s second long ball ofthe season, putting him in the team lead. Campbell added another RBI with asacrifice fly in the fifth.
MichaelLee took over in the sixth and allowed the first five batters to reach. JoshRodriguez laced an RBI single up the middle and Pedro Zapata drove home a pairwith a bouncer to centerfield. By the time Lee recorded his first out, theB-Mets held a six run lead.
Itwas more than enough support to make a winner of Gorski for the second timethis season. Elvin Ramirez worked around a walk and an error to post ascoreless seventh and side-stepped a two-out double in a blank eighth. Therighty made it three consecutive appearances with four strikeouts by fanningTejeda to end his night. Armando Rodriguez shut the door with a scorelessninth. Buckner suffered his second loss.
