The Mets, who lead the South Division with an 11-2 record, enjoyed another great performance by Chase Hutchingson, who tossed five innings of shutout baseball. However, the left-hander was pulled before the second and final rain delay.
Taylor Whitenton took over for the Mets and he kept pace with Hutchingson, as he tossed a shutout inning in the sixth.
However, things got interesting in the top of the seventh, as Alan Ahmady laced a lead off double in the right center gap to start off the inning. With Jonathan Rodriguez primed to bring the Cardinals back, a heavy down pour struck the St. Lucie area, which cause the game to be suspended after six innings of play.
The final resulted in the fourth shutout of the year for the Cardinals, who have scored a total of four runs against the St. Lucie Mets.
For the Cardinals starter Richard Castillo, it was another tough loss as he tossed six innings, allowing one run (unearned) on five hits. In three starts, he has allowed one earned run. His record now stands at 1-2.
Offensively, the Cardinals' lone threat came in the first inning, as Ronny Gil doubled. He was promptly followed by Starlion Rodriguez, who singled to left, however, Gil was gunned down at the plate on a great throw by left fielder Rafael Fernandez.
After that the Cardinals struggled to get players in scoring position and dropped their fifth game in the last six games.
