Tom Brennan - METS PROSPECTS # 41 THRU # 45
In the first 8 in this series of 10 articles on the Mets Top 50 prospects, I explained irrefutably why I felt Messrs. Alonso, Gimenez, Peterson, Mauricio, Kay, Vientos, Szapucki, Lindsay, Alvarez, Richardson, Kilome, Hernandez, Nido, Valdez, Humphreys, Newton, Toffey, Sanchez, Dibrell, Cecchini, Mazeika, Winaker, Paez, Vilera, Thompson, Cortes, Gilliam, Brodey, Hanhold, Tebow, Jannis, Kaczmarski, Viall, Carpio, Blackham, Villines, Torres, Ryan and Roseboom were my indisputable #1 thru # 40, respectively.
OK, OK, newly acquired guys like RHP Kyle Dowdy should be in my list, and aren't yet, but he is a top 20 mets prospect to me - I will add him after this 10 part article series is finished.

Let's move on to my clearly and unequivocally indisputable....
# 41 thru # 45 dudes.
# 41 thru # 45 dudes.
# 41 JEREMY VASQUEZ 1B
Jeremy has hit real well in the lower levels, and slacked only slightly upon reaching St Lucie in mid season - and his last 10 games there, he hit .417 with just 4 Ks.
Darned good for a round 28 pick in 2017. Truly impressive, even.

In 684 minors at bats to date, 40 doubles, 18 homers, 96 RBIs, .275/.368/.424. Compares favorably, IMO, to former first rounder Dominic Smith.
All told, I am humble enough to say that I should have had Vasquez ranked higher - that much is "indisputable".
Heck, if Alonso doesn't work out, this Vasquez dude is pretty rockin'. Alonso laughs, though, when he considers that Vasquez has been caught stealing 100% of the time in his career - ONCE!
Kidding aside, because of the Alonso prowess, perhaps Vasquez should become an outfielder.

# 42 WILLY TAVERAS RHSP
Willy Taveras had quite a season, going 7-1, 2.35 in 11 starts spanning 65 innings between the GCL and Kingsport in rookie ball.
His 57 Ks were good but not eye catching at that level, but he dealt to a fine 1.01 WHIP.
Let's see if we're "Wild About Willy" in 2019. Is he the next Gabe Ynoa - or will he perhaps be better?
He's 17-6 lifetime - so far, so good for the 5'11", 160 pound hurler. Get him to full season Columbia and let's see him get challenged.
# 43 STANLEY CONSUEGRA OF
Bonus baby who did not hit all that well in 2018 in rookie ball (slight over .200). i don't know much about him, but the Mets site has him in their Top 30 Prospects, so who am I to argue? And, unlike Greg Guerrero, he actually plays games.
Hit better or you're off the real Mets prospect list (this one), next season, Stan the Man.

# 44 JOE CAVALLARO RHSP
Joe dazzled right out of the gate after being picked in the 24th round in 2017.
In fact, between Kingsport in 2017 and Columbia to start 2018, the 6'4", 190 righty out of S. Florida went 11-3, 2.17 in 112 IP, with 118 Ks. Smoking.
Rushed along to St Lucie for 9 outings and Binghamton for 1 outing, Joe struggled: 2-4, 5.22, 46 Ks in 50 IP.
But one of those St Lucie starts was a gem: 6 shutout innings, 9 Ks, and over his last 6 outings, he tossed to a solid 3.41 ERA.
Depending on how his spring goes, he out to be in St Lucie or Binghamton to start the season, and could turn out to be a decent pen arm in the majors, and possibly a starter.
# 45 STEVE NOGOSEK RHRP
Like # 30 Eric Hanhold, "No Go" was a 2017 trade acquiree - the latter coming from the Bosox.
Similar velocity to Hanhold, but No Go has not progressed as far, and has real control issues to address (39 walks in 52 IP in 2018 (6.75 walks per 9 innings).
Jeesh! Jack Leathersich feels his pain.
No Go walks fewer on Sundays, however, since he heard that song, "Groovin', on a Sunday afternoon."
Kidding aside, Nogosek requires much progress on his control to make the big leagues.
He also allowed 7 homers in those 52 innings, which is a high rate for a reliever, according to what Hansel Robles told me, and Robles is like, totally, an expert on the subject.

45 prospects down, a mere 5 to go in my next and final top 50 article in a few days.

Admittedly, I do not follow the guppies as closely as the parent club, but I don't recognize anyone on this current list.
Mostly ignorance on my part, but are there any folks here that could become a factor down the road?
Mack mentioned Jeremy Vasquez, so maybe him?
Mack, I was think of, I'm Jeremy the Eighth, I Am, Jeremy the Eighth I am, I am. Vasquez could show this year that he is better than Dom Smith - you never know.
Mike, if you ask me, Vasquez and Consuegra are the most likely of these 5 to be major leaguers, IMO, either regulars or fringe.
Taveras, let me see this year first before opining.
Cavallaro seems borderline, but he could move into Dillon Gee mode this year, and Nogosek will go nowhere if his control does not markedly improve. if it does, he could be a Tyler Bashlor type.
At least, that is my take.
I have Tavares as being one of top 6 red chip SPs in the chain.
Sadly, he won't open up for a full season team
