Our very own Phil Allard told us how Sir Sidney Ponson made the Royals rotation this spring. A piece of information that may go under the radar is that Kris Benson will be in the Texas rotation. I got word of this last night while on the air from Joe DelGrippo. What will be hotter this summer, Arlington Stadium or the dresses that Anna Benson wears?

When it comes to hot dog's close cousin, the sausage, no one is in the same ballpark as the Milwaukee Brewers. It is projected that 430,000 sausages will be served this year at Miller Park - the only park in all of Major League Baseball where sausages outsell hot dogs. Many of the park's sausages The New York Mets finished a distant runner-up to the Brewers, with approximately 405,000 sausages expected to be sold at the new Citi Field this year. Finishing third in the NHDSC's first-annual sausage consumption survey is Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers, with 250,000 projected in sausage sales

NL EAST - 1) Philadelphia Phillies (92-70)

Though they lack the pitching depth that their closest competitor, the Mets, has, they've been down this road before and have more or less the same lineup that proves to be so difficult to get out down the stretch. Even if you're replacing Pat Burrell with Raul Ibanez.
2) New York Mets (90-72)
They need to figure out how to get out of their own way before they can realistically be considered the "Team to Beat." Clearly, the pieces are there, and a lot of people seem to believe in them. But I've written plenty about the makeup of this team already, and it seems to me like they're leaving an awful lot to chance on some pretty big question marks. They'll be good. I don't think they'll be quite good enough to pass Philly.

As the Mets break camp today, there are five potential MVP candidates on the roster ( Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Delgado and Santana). At the least this should be a very exciting year and the should be in contention throughout the season. For Mets fans there is something special about this team.....

I'm not sure the origin; whether it's from the original NY Giants/Dodgers fan base or being an expansion team but somehow unlike other large market teams Mets fans are obsessed with building from within. In many fans eyes every prospect is a potential all-star and every veteran role player who's signed is an over the hill bum. Lets face it every team who has played in NY has lived in the shadow of the Yankees and has had that chip on their shoulder to do it different then what has affectionately come to be called the evil empire. But more importantly to the Mets fans is that they had their most success, early on with two World Series appearances with mostly homegrown players....

The Mets have tried to create a pitcher's park to play to the club's traditional strength. But aware that not every club gets it right the first time, the Mets have left themselves some wiggle room. If Citi Field turns out to be too unkind to hitters, the Mets can remove four feet of adjustable padding on the left-field wall to make it easier to hit home runs. "What the park might do in April and May may be different from the summer," Wilpon said. "There's only so much you can simulate

10 Players on the Rise: - Daniel Murphy, OF, New York Mets

Murphy is getting some much-deserved heat late in spring training for two very important reasons. First, he has “Nick Markakis Lite” type abilities, as in the offensive skill to hit 20 homers and steal 10 bases. Second, he’s part of a powerful, potent Mets lineup that should provide plenty of run-producing opportunities. Murphy offers reasonable upside with minimal risk. Taking a flier now is a very good idea

B-Mets:

The B-Mets finished up their Spring Training schedule on Thursday afternoon with a 9-2 victory over the Springfield Cardinals in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The win was the B-Mets 6th straight and moved them to a 7-1-1 record. Right-handed starter Dylan Owen got the win for the B-Mets. He went five innings allowing only one and surrendering one earned run. He was a little wild as he allowed five walks during his outing. Nick Abel relieved Owen in the 6th inning and surrendered a run to one hit while striking out one. Edgar Alfonzo, John Madden and Jon Switzer combined for three perfect innings. Alfonozo and Switzer each struck out one batter while Madden struck out two. First Baseman Lucas Duda and Designated Hitter Josh Petersen both went 2-4 in the game. Duda was part of a four run 4th inning with a two RBI single. Petersen brought him home with a two-out double. Catcher Mike Nickeas also went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Center Fielder Frank Diaz and Third Baseman Emmanuel Garcia both added hits and RBIs in the 7th inning for the B-Mets final runs. Other B-Mets to make a dent on the scoreboard for the B-Mets were Shortstop Ruben Tejada and Left Fielder David Wabick. Tejada was 1-3 with two walks and three runs scored and Wabick was 2-5 with a double and two runs scored

Mets Alumni:

the Brewers have signed outfielder Jason Tyner to their Triple-A Nashville roster.

The Rays purchased the contract of veteran reliever Jason Isringhausen from Durham and will put him on the 15-day disabled list Sunday

For the moment, Anderson Hernandez still has some tightness in his left hamstring. And as a result, the Washington Nationals will enter the first week of the season without their starting second baseman. Hernandez will be placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 27 -- a decision that temporarily gives the starting job to Ronnie Belliard, and provides Alberto Gonzalez a spot on the Opening Day 25-man roster.

Pitcher Frank Viola on Wednesday launched a Web site, thefishingtube.com, and is working on a celebrity fishing TV show that will include pro golfer J.B. Holmes
