Like Josh Thole, Carlos Guzman proves every day that the draft system has its flaws. Some players actually improve each year, not because of God given talent, but hard work and determination. I could tell the first time I met Guzman that he was determined to make it to Queens, regardless of what the so-called experts said about him. Left undrafted, he signed a free agent contract with the Mets and started the long climb up the minor league latter that is usually reserved for the propescts with all that bonus money.
Carlos had a very good 2008 season in Savannah, which earned him a bump to St. Lucie in 2009. An even better season there will bump him to Binghamton in the spring. That’s how it works. Play well, bump.
The real exciting part is the increase of pop that’s beginning to come of his bat. Guzman was 5th in the league in homeruns in 2009.

Mack: So, what are you doing in the off-season?
Guzman: i was going to play in the Dominican Republic, but a few things happened so that didn’t work out. Instead, I’m just going to work harder than last off season.
Mack: What was your analysis of your 2009 season?
Guzman: i think i had a very successful 2009 season. All the hardwork in the off season paid off, but that’s behind me now. As they say, that’s water under the bridge.
Mack: What are your hopes and desires for the 2010 season?
Guzman: As for the 2010 season, i just want to have another successful season, but with better numbers than 09. It’s all about progress and you move up each year if you produce, so all i can ask for is another healthy and successful year.
Mack: Lastly, anything you want to share with your fans out therin Met-land?
Guzman: I just want to say thank you to whoever is pulling for me. Thanks Mack, and I hope all is well with you.
