Bisons:
For the first time in the modern era, the Buffalo Bisons were shut out on Opening Day. The Herd generated hits but went 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position en route to a 1-0 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees on Thursday night. It was the first of a four-game series against the Yankees as the Herd kicks off the 2010 season with a six-game road trip. Ike Davis went 3 for 4 for the Bisons with two doubles — but all of his hits came as the leadoff batter in the inning. Davis, a 23-year-old first baseman, had an impressive spring with the New York Mets, hitting .480 (12 of 25) with 10 runs batted in through 12 games. He spent his time last season between Single-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton where he combined for 20 home runs. – .buffalonews
B-Mets:
-SP Brad Holt was placed on the 7-day DL for an injured right wrist.
Despite leading the team in innings pitched last season, Dylan Owen couldn't find a way into the Binghamton Mets' starting rotation during spring training. Until two days after the rotation was announced, that is. The B-Mets placed right-handed pitcher Brad Holt on the seven-day disabled list Thursday morning, naming Owen as his replacement in the rotation. "It will definitely be a good opportunity for me," Owen said Thursday after the B-Mets' season opener was suspended due to rain. "I think I started once in spring training, but it's not something I don't know how to do. So I think I'll be pretty comfortable." - pressconnects.
Lucy:
-found out from one of the players yesterday that C Francesco Pena has a stress fracture in his wrist and will be out for quite awhile… this will give the Mets a chance to take a long, hard look at Jordan Abruzzo behind the plate. Jordan can simply rake the ball and was stuck playing DH most of last year due to past injuries. I’m telling ya… look up this kid’s record setting college stats…
-Talked to Nick Giarraputo this morning… he was released a few days ago. I will have more to say about him in the next “Ex-Met” posting…
The Jupiter Hammerheads scored seven runs in a two-inning stretch in the FSL opener for both teams, then cruised to a 7-2 win over the Mets. Familia, whose 10-6 record at Savannah last year earned him the honor of Sterling Organizational Pitcher of the Year, lost his control in the third inning after working two easy opening frames and being staked to a 1-0 lead. After retiring the first two batters, he plunked Jupiter’s Daniel Pertusati and Brett Carroll on consecutive pitches. Following a walk to load the bases, Jeremy Synan and Ben Lasater combined to drive in three runs with a pair of singles for a 3-1 lead- tcpalm
Gnats:
An old friend, infield utility player Luis Rivera returned to Savannah this year… Rivera was in Savannah in 2007 with Josh Thole, the year in which Josh took a bad bounc (playing first base)e in the skull and went down like a sack of flour. The game was an out of towner, and Rivera’s girlfiend was there, watching the game stopped for 20 minutes while they strapped Thole to a gurney and rushed him off to the local hospital. She called Josh’s girlfriend, who, in turn, called Josh’s parents… everything turned out fine for Josh, and, as I found out yesterday at luch with Luis, that girlfriend of his is now his wife!
Clones:
RP Tyler Howe will have TJS this coming Tuesday… I talked to him last night and his spirits are high… light a candle for a great Met…
