LAST GAME: Binghamton fell in the resumption of its suspended game 7-6, but rallied to win the regularly-scheduled game 5-1 in seven innings at NYSEG Stadium last night. The B-Mets had the tying run 90 feet away when the first game ended, but came back with early run-scoring in the second game. Nick Evans got Binghamton on top 1-0 with a sac fly to center that plated Kirk Nieuwenhuis. The B-Mets put up a three spot in the third thanks to an RBI groundout from Evans, a sac fly by Lucas Duda and an RBI single from newcomer Marshall Hubbard. The run support was more than enough for starter Dylan Owen, who started in place of the injured Brad Holt. Owen threw five no-hit innings and struck out six to pick up the win. Nieuwenhuis went a combined 4-8 between the two games with three runs scored and Evans drove in three runs. Catcher Shawn Riggans ripped a pair of doubles and plated two in the opening loss and Duda provided the pop with a two-run dinger in the first game. Eric Niesen was charged with the loss in the first game after allowing three earned runs over four-plus innings.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Scott Shaw makes his Double-A debut this afternoon for Binghamton. He led St. Lucie (High-A) last season in numerous categories, including starts (26), innings (149.2), wins (8) and strikeouts (118). The righty was drafted by the Mets in the 13th round of the June 2008 draft out of the University of Illinois. RHP Connor Graham gets the ball for Akron. The righty made eight appearances, seven of which were starts, for the Aeros last season and totaled a 1-3 mark and a 4.93 ERA in 38.1 innings. He is considered the No. 26 prospect in the Cleveland system by Baseball America. The Indians acquired Graham
from Colorado in the trade that sent reliever Rafael Betancourt to the Rockies July 23, 2009.
“O-WIN”: B-Mets righty Dylan Owen went 12 starts before his first win in 2009, starting off 0-5 as a member of the starting rotation. However, he got 2010 off to a solid start with a win his first go-around last night thanks to five, no-hit innings of scoreless work.
