7-13-10: - MaxPreps Junior All-American Baseball Team - Daniel Arellano, Centennial (Corona, Calif.), Outfield - An All-Southern Section Division I selection and a member of the Riverside Press-Enterprise all-area team, Arrelano batted .427 with 36 RBI, 31 runs scored, 5 doubles and 12 home runs. He also had a 9-3 mound record with 67 strikeouts in 76.2 innings pitched.
7-25 from: - link - I see you’re looking at names from the Under Armour game, so I don’t guess I have to say that anymore. Linney was a name that was first mentioned to me in early May, when he went almost pitch-for-pitch with fellow NorCal pitcher A.J. Vanegas. While Linney doesn’t have Vanegas’ stuff, he’s a very, very projectable left-handed arm that can already sit in the 86-88 range on good days, and I was told that he topped out at 90 in the Area Code tryouts. He made that team, too, so in about a month there will be a lot more public information on him. I have his breaking ball as a potential above-average curveball, though it’s a little soft. Decent hand speed and spin, though.
7-26-10 from: - link - Cape League veterans swept this week’s award presentation, with Steve Selsky (Arizona) earning the Coca Cola Player of the Week award. Selsky wore Firebird colors in 2009, and rejoined the team this summer. Over five games last week, Selsky batted .438 with two home runs, while hitting safely in each game and stealing a base. He has shown promising development in his two years on the Cape. His batting average stands 15 points higher than his final average last year, and he has already doubled last year’s home run output with four, good for second most in the league. Selsky was named a Freshman All-American in 2009 and was selected in the 34th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft.
7-26 from: - link - Here are some names of draft eligibles for 2011 who have not been mentioned much and are definitely on the radar for 2011 MLB scouting depts. - LHP - Charlie Lowell, Wichita St, 6'3 230, also out of bullpen much of his career, was one of top HS pitchers rated for curveball and he still has a good one ala, Barry Zito.
7-27-10 from: - link - Dylan Davis, RHP/1B, Redmond (WA) HS - My money puts him on the mound because Davis is polished and has a three-pitch package to go with a strong delivery. Nevertheless, Davis’s body (6’0”, 200 lbs) looks like a position player’s and he has one of the strongest righthanded swings I’ve seen in the early going. His lack of physical projection may be what keeps some scouts from putting him in the first round as a pitcher. Davis is also nearly an average runner and can become a solid defensive rightfielder without too much imagination.
