B-Mets: - Pre-Game Notes

LAST GAME: The Reading Phillies packed their offense into the first inning and came away with a 3-2 win over the Binghamton Mets last night at FirstEnergy Stadium. Matt Harvey allowed four straight to reach with two outs in the first inning, capped by an RBI single from Steve Susdorf and a two-run single by Der-rick Mitchell. Austin Hyatt made the lead stand for his ninth win of the season. The righty allowed just one run over six innings before handing off to Mike Cisco. Raul Reyes greeted the re-liever by blasting his seventh homer of the season into the pool beyond the right field fence. Jacob Diekman got two outs in the eighth before running into trouble. Justin Friend came to the rescue to strand two by fanning Reese Havens to end the threat. Friend worked a perfect night to seal the save.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Brandon Moore makes his team-leading 19th start of the year and first against the R-Phils. Moore held the Portland Sea Dogs to one run on six hits over six innings in a win on July 19 in his last start. He struck out four and walked just one. It was the eighth time this season Moore has allowed one earned run or less.

RHP J.C. Ramirez will make his 19th start of the season and first against Binghamton. The righty from Nicaragua has fac-tored into the decision in all but one of his starts (5/28 @ ERI). He won his last start against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on July 19, allowing two runs (none earned) on three hits over three innings against the first-place team. After winning his first four games of the year, Ramirez suffered a five-game, month-long losing streak (5/22-6/22). He was traded from the Seattle Mariners to the Phillies along with RHP Phillippe Aumont and OF Tyson Gillies in exchange for LHP Cliff Lee on 12/16/09.

DON’T STOP ME NOW: Eric Campbell extended his hitting streak to a personal season-high eight games with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate last night. The streak puts him one shy of a B-Mets season-high held by Jordany Valdespin, Josh Satin and Raul Reyes. Over the stretch Campbell is hitting .379 (11-29) with three doubles and five RBI.

ANOTHER NEW FACE: Outfielder Juan Lagares was promoted from St. Lucie (High-A) before last night’s game. Lagares led the Florida State League with a .339 batting average in 81 games. Converted from shortstop to the outfield in 2009, Lagares has had his last four seasons hampered by injuries. He singled in the eighth inning last night in his Double-A debut.

STRIKE OUTS MOUNTING: The B-Mets whiffed ten times last night. They have struck out nine or more times in seven of their last eight games.
