Cesar Puello Named League Player of the Week

BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton Mets outfielder Cesar Puello has been named Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 3-9. The native of the Dominican Republic hit .500 (12-for-24) and led the league with five home runs, 13 RBI and a 1.208 slugging percentage during the stretch.

Signed by the New York Mets as a non-drafted free agent in July 2007, Puello is in his first season with the Binghamton Mets. In 52 games played, he leads the league with a .606 slugging percentage, ranks third with a .326 batting average, sits tied for second with 13 home runs and 46 RBI and owns 17 stolen bases, the third-highest total in the league.

He is the second B-Met to receive the Eastern League honors this season. Cory Vaughn was named Player of the Week in May.

Puello and the B-Mets (38-25) return to the field Tuesday night at 7:05 PM as they start a three-game series against the Trenton Thunder at Arm & Hammer Park. RHP Erik Goeddel toes the rubber for Binghamton against RHP Mikey O’Brien. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
