Thursday night in Denver,
Juan Nicasio threw 7 scoreless innings and drove in 3 runs. The Rockies
beat the Mets 7-4. The Mets only managed
3 hits off Nicasio and 8 for the game. Juan Lagares came off the DL with a bang
going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Lagares, Chris Young and Lucas Duda were the only
ones to touch up Nicosia. Legares drove in Bobby Abreu with a double in the 8th. In the 9th the Mets staged a mini comeback against Chad Bettis. Chris Young
and Curtis Granderson singled with 2 out, then Travis d’Arnaud hit a long homer
(2) to left center to bring home 3 runs. Bettis held on to retired Ruben Tejada
to end the threat. Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and clearly didn't have
it only lasting 4 2/3 and yielding 10 hits, 7 runs, 7 earned he walked one and
struck out three. The key hits off Colon
were a solo homer by Carlos Gonzalez in the first and a 2 run opposite field
double by Nicasio in the 2nd. Nicasio added a sac fly in the 4th as well. The Met bullpen tossed 3 1/3 scoreless
innings highlighted 2 scoreless innings by Gonzalez Germen who also struck out
3, and a scoreless inning by Jose Valverde striking out two. Nicasio gets the
win improving to 3-1. Colon falls to 2-4. The Mets overall record falls to
15-12 on the year, they fall to 7-4 on the road. Friday night is game two of
the series. Zach Wheeler (1-2 3.99) goes for the Mets, Jorge De La Rosa (2-3 5.23) goes for Colorado.
