Friday night at Citi Field, John Mayberry’s two run homer in
the bottom of the 4th gave the Mets the 3-0 lead. The Mets beat the
Braves by the score of 5-3. The Mets took
a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd on a solo homer by Wilmer
Flores, for Flores his 10th on the year, he now leads the club. In the bottom of the 4th Mayberry
crashed his 3rd homer on the year, a two run shot and the Mets had a
3-0 lead. The Braves scored 2 in the top
of the 5th. A.J. Pierzynski scored on a fielder’s choice by pitcher
Alex Wood to make it 3-1. Jace Peterson
then hit an RBI double to score Johnny Gomes to make it 3-2 Mets. In the 6th Mayberry scored on a RBI
ground out by Eric Campbell and it was 4-2. In the 7th the Braves made it 4-3
when Nick Markakis grounded into a double play allowing Jace Peterson to score.
The Mets made it 5-3 in the 7th when Michael Cuddyer’s RBI double
scored Darrell Ceciliani. Bartolo Colon went
6 allowing 6 hits 2 runs (both earned) walking 2 and striking out 3. He gets
the win improving to 9-4. Alex Torres and Carlos Torres got the Mets to the 9th. Jeurys Familia pitched the 9th for
his 18th save. Alex Wood
takes the loss for the Braves he falls to 4-4.
John Mayberry led the Mets with 2 hits the homer and 2 RBI. With the win the Mets improve to 33-29 on the
year and they also improve to 23-10 at Citi Field. The Nats lost in Milwaukee and the Mets now lead the NL east by 1 ½ games. Saturday afternoon it’s game two of the
series. Jacob deGrom (7-4 2.42) goes for
the Mets, Shelby Miller (5-2 1.84) goes for the Braves.
