June 19th 2015 -- Braves 2, Mets 1

Friday night in Atlanta, the Met offense continued to struggle managing only a single run, the Braves break through with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 8^th inning as they beat the Mets 2-1.  It was a pitcher’s duel between Jacob deGrom for the Mets and rookie hurler Matt Wisler for the Braves, Wisler making his ML debut.  Both hurlers threw goose eggs at each other until the top of the 6^th when Ruben Tejada doubled and then came home on Michael Cuddyer’s RBI single.  deGrom was sailing along looking like he just might make the single run hold up. But in the 8^th Andrelton Simmons doubled, was sacrificed to 3^rd and then scored on a 2 run double by Jace Peterson.  The Met defense dropped the ball again. On the bunt play deGrom pounced on the ball and had Simmons dead to rights at 3^rd but Tejada’s inexperience at the hot corner had him way off the bag. Then with the infield-in a grounder to Flores became in infield hit when Flores held it too long and that set up the 2 run double and the loss.  Sean Gilmartin relieved deGrom in the 8^th and yielded the 2 run double. Both runs charged to deGrom. deGrom went 7 1/3 allowing four hits, 2 runs (both earned) 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.  He takes the loss falling to 7-5. Wisler went 8 allowing just the 1 run. He gets his first major league win he’s now 1-0. Matt Grilli pitched the 9^th for the Braves and notched his 19^th save. With the loss the Mets drop to 36-33 on the year and 10-22 on the road.  With a Nats win on Friday the Mets now only lead the NL East by ½ game.  Saturday Night it’s game two of the series. Noah Syndergaard (2-4  3.76) goes for the Mets, Williams Perez (3-0 2.29) goes for the Braves.
