Mets have their regular starters out with Jacob deGrom on the hill for the team’s first sim game of summer training.

Here’s deGrom’s first pitch (and then some) against Jake Marisnick, who struck out looking. Dom Smith and Ces were the only two players to get hits off him. pic.twitter.com/JSZrGFDiDB
Here's Jed Lowrie (gray shirt) participating in baserunning drills with his Mets teammates, though it's nothing remotely close to full speed. pic.twitter.com/Pcjng64AQV

Rod
Kanehl, appearing as a pinch-hitter, hits the first grand slam in Mets
history, going deep off Bobby
Shantz in the eighth inning of the team's 10-3 victory over the Cardinals
at the Polo Grounds. The bases loaded round-tripper comes in the 79th game of
the franchise's existence.

In a rare Mets victory, Gil
Hodges goes deep off Redbird hurler Ray
Sadecki for his 370th and final home run of his career, finishing tenth
on the all-time list and with the most round-trippers ever hit by a
right-handed batter in the National League. In attendance at the Polo Grounds
contest is eight year-old Howie Rose, the future Mets radio voice watching
his first major league game, and Ralph Kiner, the play-by-play announcer for
the expansion team, who will have the quiet first baseman on his postgame
show, Kiner Korner, reminding his guest that the right-handed NL home run
mark had been established by him in 1954.

Recently acquired outfielder Richard
Hidalgo establishes a club record, homering in five straight games for
the Mets. In 16 games with New York, the former Astro has eight home runs,
compared to hitting just four with Houston in 56 games.

I was hit in the face once from an a liner hit down the third base line. All I remember about it was the shock felt when it struck.
That Giancarlo Stanton is one big headache.
Cespedes owns Jake deGrom. MVP next?
If Lowrie is ineligible for insurance payout to Wilpons, he should be a 30 man pinch hitter. Brace for impact.
Betances will be a big asset, I think.
