NY Post: Jacob deGrom scratched from start with lat inflammation in sudden Mets concern.

Joel Sherman NY Post: Inside Mets’ decision to fire Chili Davis and the origin of Donnie Stevenson. “[Acting Mets General Manager Zack] Scott had been meeting with his subordinates about making a change. Alderson had been thinking similarly. Then after last Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to the Red Sox in which the Mets had two hits, 15 strikeouts and were at one run in 18 innings with one ineffective, indecisive at-bat after another against Boston, the duo met and found themselves in unison. Manager Luis Rojas was not in simpatico. But he was outnumbered and outranked.”

1965

In a match-up of eventual Hall of Famers at Shea Stadium, Phillies' right-hander Jim Bunning beats the Mets, 1-0, for his sixth straight complete-game victory over the New Yorkers. The Philadelphia starter provides the game's lone run with a sixth-inning lead-off solo homer run off southpaw Warren Spahn, who also goes the distance, giving up just four hits.

1995

Thirty-three years after Don Zimmer played third base in the franchise's first game, Edgardo Alfonzo becomes the 100th player in Mets history to cover the 'hot corner'. Howard Johnson played the most games at the position, appearing in 835 games over a span of eight seasons.

2004

Mets backstop Mike Piazza passes Carlton Fisk for most home runs hit by a catcher when he hits his 352nd round-tripper as a catcher. The Norristown, PA native's 405-foot opposite-field historic homer comes off a Jerome Williams' 3-1 fastball during the first inning of the Mets' 8-2 victory at Shea Stadium.

2008

In the 4,000th game played at Dodger Stadium, Joe Torre's Dodgers beat the Mets, 5-1. Let's go Cyclones! Glad to see MiLB back in action. Mother Nature cut the Mets a break yesterday. Let's win two.

Watch the video on Tylor Megill - THAT is a REAL major league arm.

Having the minors is such a buffer against the pains of the majors.

Lindor has to feel personally responsible for the hitting coach firings. If he was hitting this year like he did in 2017-19, it would have lifted all boats - and bats - and they'd still be here. Of course, I wonder if Chili messed up McNeil and Smith. Both are under-normal performance.

Two cents:
- Really enjoyed watching Todd Ziele’s breakdown of Lindor’s swing problem. Very educational.
- Magill’s fastball jumps at the last second and is untouchable up in the zone. But that curve... Looks like 1984 Dwight Gooden.
- Happy to see the nice opening day for most of the top hitting prospects, but worrying about Lee and Palmer with three strikeouts... mid season form?
- Tim Healey was right, the Mets caught a huge break last night. Thanks Cardinals. Now you’re getting swept.

On Chili

I sort of liked him better last year by remote. I think that the Mets sort of overreacted by making this move so soon after Chili Davis had experienced success prior.

On Francisco

Experts tell me that he "may be" trying to pull too much in his swing and that he just needs to relax and play his natural game. Francisco is a stud player and will figure it all out soon. I have no doubt in him at all. Remember when the great Derek Jeter had the one slightly off season while playing for the Yankees? After most fans saying that Jetes was done and no longer good, Derek came back and batting phenomenally well the very next season.

If Francisco sat across from me, I would simply say to him this, "Francisco you are a great player with unbelievable skills, everyone has seen this. But this is how New York City works.

When you have a good game all the fans love you and want you to run for President. They throw flowers at your feet, and give you a parade on high. When you have a game maybe not up to the fan's expectations of you (which is always a lot) the fans want you to be run out of town like they tried to do with Yankee great Derek Jeter after that one slightly off season he had in the example above. So what I am trying to say here to you is simply this, "Be you, be proud, hold your head up high and smile often. Be yourself and realize that no people anywhere forgive faster and want more for you than New Yorkers. You'll see. Try to be patient with us too."
