Mack's Open Thread for Hot Stove Season

The regular season is done (and so are the Mets & Yanks), so it is officially "Hot Stove" season in New York.  This is our daily open thread to discuss the many possibilities in the Mets' first off-season headed by a President Of Baseball Operations (POBO).  There are many intriguing story lines and rumors already spinning around in the media, so this is your opportunity to weigh in with your thoughts.

Today's topic: As the Mets build a "competitive" roster for the 2024 season, should they go "all in" on a strong pitching staff which has been a Mets tradition, or should they go "all in" on a power lineup to match the slugging ability of their division rivals from Atlanta and Philadelphia?

1. Not all in on either. Team is set up for a big graduation class come 2025

2. I never trust prospect starters. Sign two established starters. Hopefully one from Japan

3. Four or five top prospects arrive in 2025. Continue to establish the Baby Mets in hopes of 3 working out

4. If anything invest in an established outfielder

More established than Starling Marte?

I think that Marte has established himself as unreliable based on his two seasons with the Mets. Yes, he is great when he is healthy, but creates a big hole to fill everytime he goes down with muscle injuries. It reminds me of the Syndergaard days when we kept saying "if only he gets healthy".

To me Marte would work better as a OF4 DH and pinch runner

I have some reservations about one top prospect, Mack. Acuna. I whipped up an article, I’ll see when it is right to schedule it.

I think how our Baby Mets do will be an important factor.. I think they’re going to give all four a good shot. How they do will determine whether they are competitive or not.

I think between Alvarez and Parada the Mets are set behind the plate

I think Parada is trade bait.

Mack what do you think of Korean OF Jung Hoo Lee. I’ve been talking him up here and on other sites about this kid’s sweet swing and ability. I think I posted two videos of him. One where he hits a ball at his feet for a double and another where he roped an off the wall double off of Yamamato in the WBC. Walks more then he K’s and very high OPS. I know its the KBO but some players are just special. He could be one.

Agree. Keep his legs and muscles fresh. He’d be a good and very high priced 4th OF but Steve can afford it.

I'm with Mack. Catcher is obviously the most injury-prone position in baseball, and every team needs at least 2. Until another prospect at the position is ready to be at least a ML backup, we must keep KP.

What if Parada can bring back a good young starter?

I’d rather thee catcher than the starter. All things being equal in experience, the catcher is harder to find than the pitcher.
