If you read my wrap-up on the Arizona Fall League last week, you saw that the Dominican Winter League had already gotten underway. The DWL, more commonly known as LIDOM for its’ Spanish acronym, is a 50-game winter league played primarily in the Dominican Republic.
The DWL has 180 rostered players right now. Of the 180, the breakdown is as follows:
(2) 2023 rostered A-level minor league players
(13) 2023 rostered AA-level minor league players
(42) 2023 rostered AAA-level minor league players
(18) 2023 rostered MLB players
(52) ex-minor league players not on a 2023 roster
(44) ex-MLB players not on a 2023 roster
(9) players not identified on a MLB or minor league roster
Several players among these are worthy of note for Mets fans:
Current Syracuse Met Abraham Almonte is on the roster for the Leones del Escogido team
Current Syracuse Met Daniel Palka is on the roster for the Aguilas Cibaeñas team.
Former Syracuse Mets Adonis Medina (Tigres del Licey), Jordany Valdespin, and Antonio Santos (Gigantes del Cibao) and former Syracuse and NY Met Yennsy Diaz is on the Estrellas Orientales team.
Former Brooklyn Cyclone Luis Manuel Gonzalez plays for Aguilas Cibaeñas.
Also on LIDOM rosters, familiar names like Jenrry Mejia, Hansel Robles, Robinson Cano, and Yasiel Puig are still playing. Cano turned 41 years old this fall.
Currently the DWL is about 20 games into their 50-game season, so they are in rhythm. The Cibao Giants (Gigantes del Cibao) lead the league with a 15-5 record. The Tigres del Licey and Aguilas Cibaeñas teams were in New York to play a three-game series at Citi Field this past weekend.

Ronny Mauricio rumored to be joining up. Anything that will improve his game. Needed in 2024.
This league used to be a place where key players went to hone their game.
Not anymore
BTW
Palka was released late last week
Is JT Schwartz playing anywhere?
Schwartz just finished Fall ball, no winter ball, should (IMO) be heading straight to the weight room, and we’ll next see him in spring training.
If I was JT, I’d set high AAA goals for 2024: .300, 30 doubles, 30 HRs, 100 RBIs.
Palka should play for the LI Ducks. He is now age 32. Ship has sailed.
I would expect current Mets who need ABs and playing time for work on D (Mark Vientos) to go there. What's Mark doing to up his chances of making it to the 26-man in '24?
What are the eligibility requirements? Must players be Latino, or born in a Carib country, or can non-Latino players such as Baty play there?
If I was the Mets I’d set high goals for 2024, 100 wins, a division title, and a WS appearance.
Did I see the name of former Met and outstanding Long Island Quacker Jordany Valdespin?
