All 3 lefties were lousy starters, but very good-to-great relievers.
Britton just retired…how’d he do?
4.86 ERA as a starter in 250 innings. Lousy.
2.03 ERA, 17-9, 154 saves as a reliever. Great.
Miller, Hand? Very similar…look them up.
Hey, righty Jeurys Familia was a lousy minors starter, who turned into a sometimes-great MLB reliever. 34-29, 127 saves.
(Sometimes not great, Reese would remind me).
So…
Who can the Mets repurpose from so-so starter to lights-out reliever?
Because, heaven knows, we need lights-out relievers.
Something for Mr. Stearns to think about.

Cohen is going to have to blow everyone else out of the water to get Yamamoto. Without Yamamoto it’s Senga and Quintana, and Quintana is no sure thing to be healthy or effective. Need Yamamoto and Montgomery to be competitive in 2024. If Yamamoto picks Yankees then Mets should get Cole in option year

John Gibbons, 61, is signed as bench coach. Good move.
As he can still drive in more runs than Tomas Nido, who only had one RBI, while Gibbons in 50 MLB at bats had 2 RBIs back in the 1980s, he will be the go-to catcher if Narvaez falters, too. Former Mets first rounder.
Yamamoto is a need, but so is his fellow countryman, the lefty starter that will be posted on Monday. The most important thing for the Mets is finding quality MLB arms, and not arms with options.
Tom, we have broached the subject of how the Cardinals bring up their rookie starters as relievers first, to acclimate them to the majors. The Mets just don’t have enough quality arms ready in order to do that.

Happy Thanksgiving even though our long awaited date for a WS game may have to be pushed back yet again I'm determined to live long enough to see it. So I'm 76 which means I may have to make it to the big 100 LOL ...oh my well a thought anyway. We really need to get Yamamoto otherwise this winter will be a failure unless Ohtani is under our Christmas tree. I must admit even though we've been burned before I'm really looking forward to what DS has in store for us as there's lots of room on the 40 man but of course time will tell LGM.

Does this bring to an end the coaches issue?
I was also told that Yamamoto's agent has now stated that his client wants to play on a team that has other Nippon players.

Stearns is following the proper steps in first getting his house in order before reaching out for players via free agency.
As for failed starters that could make for decent one inning relievers, I would look to guys like Megill and Peterson (post recovery) to help here
I'm rooting for a permanent switch of Tylor Megill to the bullpen. His trials as a starter were not good - but he has the tools to get people out, and if he focuses that on short 1-2 inning stints he could be effective. Just needs to be at his best from the first pitch rather than a slow starter.

Bill, Syndergaard can’t relieve, for a simple reason. Anyone gets on base, they’ll steal him blind. Terrible at that. Peterson when healthy is rated excellent at that, in contrast.
I am waiting for Oca to return. He’ll probably throw as hard as Randy Jones, though, not like Randy Johnson, when he returns.

Paul, it has been said that SOMETIMES Megill loses his velocity after the third inning and definitely much more effective the first time through the order.
Now, like Lugo, guys want to start. If they aren’t buying into the bullpen, then it’s counterproductive. I do think Megill would be a good reliever or possible trade bait, later this offseason after the free agency signings have settled down some.
