B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

Binghamton loaded the bases twice with one out
in the seventh and eighth innings, but failed to put across a
run to tie the game, allowing New Hampshire to eek out a 3-2
win. Four different relievers held the B-Mets in check, capped
off by Leon Boyd’s longest outing to pick up the save, going
1.1 innings. Binghamton starter Jose Sanchez went 4.2 innings
giving up three runs to take the loss. Seven of the nine
players in the B-Mets starting lineup tallied hits, but failed to
come up with the big hit to take the lead. Brian Dopirak was
the offensive star for New Hampshire, going 2-4 with 2 RBI
and a run scored.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Ryan Coultas will make
his third professional start tonight in game two of the series.
Coultas is 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA. In his last time out, he worked
a career-long 5.1 innings versus Portland, giving up two runs
on four hits in a no-decision last Sunday. Coultas is in his first
season as a starter after being converted to a pitcher last
year. He was an infielder for the Mets after being drafted out
of UC-Davis in the sixth round in 2004.

RHP Rei Gonzalez makes his fourth start of the year tonight
for the Fisher Cats. Gonzalez enters with a 1-0 record and a
sparkling 1.37 ERA over 19.2 innings. The Cuban-born righty
went five innings in his last start at New Britain limiting the
Rock Cats to just two runs on one hit in a no-decision last
Sunday. Last season, Gonzalez finished tied for the Florida
State League with Binghamton starter Dylan Owen for the
league lead in wins with 12 for Dunedin (High-A). He was
Toronto’s 19th round pick in 2005 out of St. Petersburg Junior
College.

DIAMOND DEFENDERS: Binghamton is fielding .983 through
12 games, good for fourth best in the Eastern League. The BMets
have gone 36 straight innings without committing an
error, including four consecutive games. The infield defense
has been sterling beginning with the double play combo of 19-
year old SS Ruben Tejada and 22-year-old 2B Matt Bouchard.

STARTING SLOW: The B-Mets starting pitching is out of the
gates slow totaling a 6.42 ERA through 12 games. The starters
are averaging under 4.2 inning per start and have given
up 39 ER in 54.2 innings. Jose Sanchez has been the slowest
out of the gates with an ERA of 9.88 in three starts.

FAMILIAR FIRST 12: At this point last season, Binghamton
possessed the same record as the 2009 team, 7-5. However,
a year ago, the Mets began a downturn dropping to a seasonworst
11-20 before turning above .500 for the rest of the year
