TODAY’S GAME:
Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Rochester Red Wings in the first game of a two-game series from Frontier Field (6:35 p.m.). JOINING THE HERD:
The Bisons have activated RHP Nelson Figueroa and OF Wily Mo Pena. Pena signed as a free agent a week ago after hitting .205 with two homeruns and 10RBI in 64 games with Washington last year. C Michael Nickeas has also been promoted from Binghamton (AA). Nickeas has played four games (1-13, R) with the B-Mets this year.
ROSTER MOVES:
To make room for the new additions, RHP Freddy Garcia was released by the Mets. He was 0-2 with an 8.18ERA in two starts. INF Jonathan Malo was reassigned to Binghamton. He hit .203 with two RBI in 14 games with Buffalo. C Rene Rivera was assigned to Brooklyn (A) after hitting .182 in six games with the Bisons.
OH NELLY:
RHP Nelson Figueroa is back on the hill for the Bisons. Tonight will be the veteran’s third start with the team. Figueroa began the year with Buffalo and posted a 3.00ERA in two starts for the Bisons before being promoted by the Mets on April 18. Figueroa was 0-1 with a 4.50ERA in one start with New York (6.0IP, 5H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 3K).
BULLY FOR THE PEN:
For the second straight game, the Bisons bullpen delivered four shutout innings last night. RHP Connor Robertson and RHP Eddie Kunz combined to strike out five and allowed just one hit.
SULLY’S START:
OF Cory Sullivan led off yesterday’s game with his first homerun of the season. The last Bisons batter to lead off the game with a homer was OF Trevor Crowe on July 26, 2008 in Charlotte.
SPEED LIMIT:
The Bisons’ catchers lead the International League in both times caught stealing (10) and percentage (44%). The Herd has allowed just 13 stolen bases in 23 attempts by its opponents. As a team, the Bisons .983 fielding percentage is tied for 4th best in the International League
