The Buffalo Bisons, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, outhit the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Wednesday, but came up one run short in the scoring tally, dropping game three of a four game set, 4-3.
Gee was the tough luck loser Wednesday afternoon, falling to 0-2 on the year. In just his sixth start above Class A-Advanced, Gee lasted five innings, allowing only two runs on just four hits. He walked three and struck out three.
The Yankees struck early, scoring on the second batter of the game. With one out in the first, former Bison John Rodriguez sent a full-count pitch over Heron's Landing in rightfield for his first homerun of the season. That made it 1-0 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Scranton/W-B added another run via the homer in the fourth. Juan Miranda continued his hot start to the season with a solo shot of Dillon Gee. That run would not go unanswered, however. Buffalo catcher Robinson Cancel picked up his first RBI of the season in the bottom of the frame, doubling in Jonathon Malo to make the score 2-1.
Down 3-1, the Bisons made things interesting once Yankees ace Ian Kennedy left the game after six baffling innings. With Anthony Claggett on the mound, Buffalo strung together four consecutive one-out singles. Argenis Reyes started the streak at the bottom of the Herd order. Jesus Feliciano and Cory Sullivan followed with hits to load the bases, bringing the International League's leader in extra base hits, Fernando Martinez, to the plate.
Ahead in the count 3-1, F-Mart sent a single into leftfield, scoring Reyes easily. Feliciano chugged home behind Reyes, but was beat by the relay throw. Buffalo's leadoff man solved the problem by sliding into catcher Chris Stewart's glove, jarring the ball loose and rendering himself safe at home. That brought Buffalo within one, 4-3.
