Daytona 10, St. Lucie 3

from press release:

The Daytona Cubs (19-10, 53-46) pounded the St. Lucie Mets (17-13, 50-48) in game three of the series, 10-3. Daytona has won the first seven of this current eight-game road trip. The seven game win streak ties a season high for Daytona.

The Cubs wasted no time getting on the board as they put up two runs in the top of the first inning. Second baseman DJ LeMahieu got things going with a one-out double down the right field line. Third baseman Ryan Flaherty walked and after a strike out by Michael Brenly, Kyler Burke roped a single through the left side of the infield to plate LeMahieu. First baseman Rebel Ridling followed with a single up the middle to score Flaherty and put the Cubs on top 2-0.

Shortstop Wilmer Flores cut the lead in half with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the second inning. The home run was the third of the season for Flores.

The Cubs tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Ridling reached with a leadoff walk and then catcher Mark Reed doubled to put runners at first and second. Mets starter Angel Calero recorded back-to-back strikeouts, but could not get center fielder David Macias who lined a triple into the right field corner to score two. That chased Calero from the game and Scott Moviel came on, but delivered a wild pitch that allowed Macias to score and the Cubs jumped out in front 5-1.

Mets first baseman Stefan Welch lined a one-out double to the wall in right-center field in the fourth inning. Back-to-back wild pitches by Cubs starter Alberto Cabrera allowed Welch to score and the Mets made it a 5-2 game.

Daytona got that run back and one more in the top of the fifth inning as Michael Brenly singled to center field and brought home Ryan Flaherty who had doubled earlier in the inning. Mark Reed then singled to left field after a Brenly stolen base and the Cubs extended their lead to 7-2.

The Mets made it 7-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning as second baseman Ryan Mollica doubled in left fielder Joey August.

Daytona one-upped the Mets again with a two-run top of the sixth inning. Ryan Flaherty blasted his third home run of the season down the right field line and brought DJ LeMahieu in with him.

The runs kept on coming in the top of the seventh inning for Daytona. Moviel walked the bases loaded and then gave up a two-out RBI single to David Macias to make it 10-3 Cubs.
Cabrera worked six innings in the winning effort and gave up just three runs over that span. Cabrera also struck out a career-high 9 batters. Calero took the loss for St. Lucie with just 3.2 innings of work in the spot start.
