The Brooklyn Cyclones are loaded with offensive weapons. Centerfielder Darrell Ceciliani is hitting .384, first baseman Jeff Flagg has established himself as a dangerous middle-of-the-lineup bat, and shortstop Rylan Sandoval has seven homers while slugging .582 for Wally Backman’s club.
But the Cyclones’ hottest hitter right now and maybe the best overall hitter in the New York-Penn League has been rightfielder Cory Vaughn, a fourth-round pick out of San Diego State in 2010. Vaughn has hit safely in Brooklyn’s last 11 games, hitting .476 during that span. He has three home runs, 13 RBI, and 11 runs scored during his hot streak. After 35 games, Vaughn is the league leader in home runs (9), slugging percentage (.614) and OPS (1.023).
