The Brooklyn Cyclones came out on the winning side of a 19-run slugfest against their cross-river rivals on Friday night at MCU Park. The Cyclones have now scored 12 or more runs three times in July and are averaging 5.8 runs per game this season. Brooklyn has now won 10 straight home games and are 16-2 at home this season. The 12-7 victory against Staten Island gives Brooklyn a six-game lead in the McNamara Division.
RF Cory Vaughn went 1-for-3 and extended his 10-game hit streak with a bases-loaded single in the second inning. Vaughn is batting just under .500 over the past eleven games with 13 RBI. he leads the league with 34 RBI on the year. SS Rylan Sandoval was 2-for-3, including a stolen base and a moon-shot over the scoreboard in left-field for his seventh home run of the season. 1B Jeff Flagg had a double in the sixth inning and a booming two-out triple to dead centerfield to drive in two runs in the fourth inning. CF Darrell Ceciliani went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and hit his league-leading sixth triple. 2B J.B Brown had two hits and added two RBI and two runs.
LHP Mitch Houck earned his fourth win, allowing seven runs on eight hits over five innings. Five of the runs were unearned, due to three costly fielding errors by the Cyclones. LHP Hamilton Bennett threw three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while striking out three. RHP Brian Needham relieved Bennett in the ninth and pitched a scoreless frame to finish the game.
