LAST GAME: Binghamton evened its three-game set with New


Hampshire courtesy of a 5-2 win Wednesday night at Merchantsauto.


com Stadium. Mark Cohoon enjoyed his second


straight quality start and earned the win with six-plus innings


of two-run work. He limited the Fisher Cats to seven hits and


struck out five. Zach Stewart took the loss for New Hampshire


after allowing three runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings. After


falling behind 1-0, the B-Mets tied the score in the fourth with


a Marshall Hubbard two-out, RBI single to center. Brahiam


Maldonado gave Binghamton the lead for good in the fifth


with a solo homer to left-center, his ninth of the year. Jose


Coronado led all hitters with a 3-4 showing, including walk


and a double. Jon Malo also had one of his best games of the


season with a 2-3 night, with two runs scored and two RBI.


Manuel Alvarez followed Cohoon with two scoreless innings


and Roy Merritt worked the ninth for his eight save.



STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Jenrry Mejia will make


his fifth start of the season for Binghamton in the rubber


match of the series tonight. He worked a season-long 5.2


innings in his last start, August 13 versus Reading. Mejia


allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits in the nodecision.


The righty is 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA over 13.1 innings


with the B-Mets. The 20-year-old appeared in 30 games out of


the bullpen for New York (NL) at the start of the season and


recorded a 3.25 ERA over 27.2 innings. Mejia made 10 starts


for Binghamton last season and was winless with an 0-5 mark


and a 4.47 ERA over 10 starts (44.1 IP). The Santo Domingo,


DR native is a member of the Mets’ 40-man roster and was


signed as a non-drafted free agent April 4, 2007.



RHP Rey Gonzalez gets the call for the Fisher Cats for his


ninth start. He output a quality start in his last turn through


the rotation August 11 at Richmond. Gonzalez went six innings


and allowed two runs on six hits in a no-decision. He is 2


-3 with a 6.90 ERA over 45.2 innings with New Hampshire.The


Cuban-born right-hander opened 2010 with Las Vegas (AAA)


and struggled to the tune of a 6-6 mark and a 9.18 ERA over


82.1 innings. Gonzalez gave up 138 hits over that span,


meaning PCL hitters hit him at a .374 clip. Last season, he


went 4-6 with a 2.90 ERA in 17 starts with the Fisher Cats


spanning 93 innings. Toronto drafted him in the 19th round of


the June 2005 draft out of St. Petersburg JC.
