The Marlins will move into their retractable-roof ballpark in 2012. Throughout 2011, you will see the organization ramp up its marketing and promotional efforts in preparation for the switch. Prior to the ’12 season, the team will change its name to the Miami Marlins. As part of the transition, the organization will unveil new uniforms. No date has been set, but look for the announcement to come at some point early in 2012, perhaps near the time of FanFest, which is usually in early February.

Jesus Flores:
Magallanes Navegantes (15-9) 5-2 - Mark Trumbo is hitting bombs, with five homeruns and 19 runs driven in. He is hitting .344, but his 32 whiffs lead the league. It is all or nothing for him. For the Navegantes Hank Conger was too much nothing and they released him after he could only muster a .139 average in 10 games. Jesus Flores has come in to take over the catching responsibilities after being disabled for close to two years. He’s only hitting .267 but the Nationals have to be happy that he is playing.

2011 Projection - Nieve has pretty good stuff – a hard sinking fastball that hovers in the 92-94 range, a slider that stays down, and both a curveball and changeup that have potential. I believe sincerely that he can be a decent middle reliever for a manager that understands how to properly manage a bullpen, with the potential to be a legit setup man if he can ever regain his mid- to upper-90s heat. At the same time, he could develop into a back-of-the-rotation innings eater if he can gain consistent command of either the changeup or the curve. I can’t confirm, but I believe that Nieve is currently a free agent. He turned 28 in July, so there’s still a chance his body can get back to pushing the ball in the 95-MPH range. Personally, I hope the Mets can retain him on a minor league deal, as he has a chance to at least become an inexpensive option for the pitching staff – be it as a starter or from the bullpen.

Mets Meds:
Alderson needs to turn his attention to more pressing matters. Yes, Sandy got the (moneyball) band back together. Now, everyone will be distracted by the manager search, but I say Alderson needs to start chopping with the medical staff. Ray Ramirez needs to go, whether the past 4 years of debacle are his fault or not. Anyone that fails a pop quiz on how to deal with player concussions should be let go too. And Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek too. Injuries are part of the game, but there is a medical malaise hanging over this team, and communication never seems to happen smoothly.
