Cutnpaste: - Trading Pelfrey, Terrasas, Draft, Top SS Prospects, and Mike O’Connor

 Trading Pelfrey:

There is good reason to think, however, that Pelfrey’s market value is probably inflated right now, and it would behoove the Mets to sell high on him. His tidy surface stats belie the fact that he is, most likely, a rather pedestrian pitcher. After all, looking at Pelfrey’s peripherals, he is just not particularly good at anything. He does not strike out a lot of hitters, and his walk rate is more or less average. He induces a decent number of ground-balls (around 50% of his batted balls were grounders), but no one is confusing him for Brandon Webb or Derek Lowe in his prime. Most importantly, these three factors have held remarkably constant the last three years, despite varying ERAs. - mets today

Terrasas:

In New York, though, DePodesta will be hiring a new top amateur scout. Terrasas had served in that post since 2006. In that time, the Mets picked up such players as 2008 first-rounder Ike Davis and 2006 15th-rounder Daniel Murphy, while rarely going above-slot for top talent. Terrasas was pleased with the team's pitching haul in the 2010 draft, most notably first-rounder Matt Harvey and 24th-rounder Erik Goeddel, both of whom the Mets went over slot to sign. - BA

Draft:

The top questions surrounding the Draft regard its expansion to countries beyond the United States and Canada, and the slotting system for payment of picks. The possibility for trading Draft picks has also garnered some attention, but seems to be less of a front-burner question. Analyzing Harper's swingFor the most part, general managers and owners declined to get into details about what was discussed in their meetings, deferring questions to MLB's vice president of labor relations, Rob Manfred. But they expressed satisfaction with the way the discussions progressed on Tuesday and Wednesday. - mlb

Top SS Prospects:

Here are the top 25 shortstop prospects. To some degree, Manny Machado ranked first by default. Machado is less valuable in fantasy because he is at least three years away, but he still ranked first because there was no upper-level prospect whose performance justified a #1 ranking.

1. Manny Machado—Orioles

2. Grant Green—Athletics

3. Nick Franklin—Mariners

4. Jose Iglesias—Red Sox

5. Dee Gordon—Dodgers

6. Jurickson Profar—Rangers

7. Christian Colon—Royals

8. Danny Espinoza—Nationals

9. Adeiny Hechavarria—Blue Jays

10. Wilmer Flores—Mets  -  deep leagues

Mike O’Connor:

Also minor league-related, the Mets have re-signed left-hander Mike O'Connor to a minor league contract, according to Baseball America. The ex-Nat went 5-2 with a 2.67 ERA and six saves in 51 relief appearances at Triple-A Buffalo last season. ESPN
