Cutnpaste: - Team X, Jerry Grote, Wilmer Flores, Jeurys Familia, and Josh Thole

Team X:

When you look at the 2010 New York Mets and do a comparison to Team X – we’ll call them Team X for now – you may be surprised to say the least. First off the Mets scored 656 runs, 13th in the NL. Team X scored 697 9th in the NL. The Mets had a .314 OBP raking 14th in the NL and Team X had a .321 OBP for 9th in the NL. The Mets walked 502 times with Team X walking 487 times. Ranking both 12th and 13th in the NL. Comparitively, their pitching were both outstanding. The Mets allowed 652 runs, 11th best in the NL while Team X just 583 which was second best in the NL. Considering the Mets pitching staff from 2010, it’s remarkable - link

Jerry Grote:

Grote had a special way of letting his pitchers know he wasn’t pleased with a pitch. “Jerry had such a great arm. He could throw with great control and handcuff you in front of your belt buckle,” remembers Koosman. Grote would get incensed when Jim McAndrew was on the mound. “McAndrew would never challenge hitters according to where Grote wanted the ball; so Grote kept firing it back and handcuffing him in front of the belt buckle, and we would laugh, because we knew what Grote was doing,” said Koosman. - johnstrubel.

 Wilmer Flores:

Margarita Bravos (21-18) 4-5 - Wilmer Flores is back from his calf injury, but his 8 game hitting streak (11 for 24) hasn’t helped in the win column. He did hit two homeruns and drove in 9 runs during the eight game stretch. Andy Tracy was booted from his Dominican team for a failure to hit (2 for 29) but for Margarita he raked at a 4 for 11 clip, with three of the hits going for doubles. Take that Aguilas. - MWOB

fr: Jeurys Familia
 Jeurys Familia:

11-24-10 from: - Mets Geek  - 9. Jeaurys Familia. Familia took a huge step backwards this season. Familia fell in love with his new found fastball velocity, which he proved difficult to command. He started dialing back his fastball towards the end of the season and was able to finally command it, showing off the downward movement that made him such a valued prospect during the 2009 season. He is primarily a 2 pitch pitcher, Fastball/Slider; however, there have been whispers ofa changeup being developed this offseason. I think Allen and Goeddel have greater ceilings than Familia but Familia’s dialed back sinking fastball makes his floor a little less sketching, considering Allen’s back injury and Goeddel’s lack of starting experience. His best case scenario is a number 3 starter. Worst case scenario is a middle reliever in the mode of Felix Rodriguez.

 Josh Thole:

11-25-10 from: - MWOB  - 8. Josh Thole C - Kevin Youkillus was referred to as the walking machine. Josh Thole appears to have learned a lot from Kevin. He is one of the more patient hitters with the bat, finishing the minor league season with a 22/25 walk to K ratio in the minor leagues and not losing that focus in the major leagues with a 24/25 walk to K ratio. He will be one of these catchers that will not shine defensivey, but he will contribute with the bat. Josh doesn’t have over the fence power, but he can spray the ball gap to gap to get his share of doubles and triples.
