The Mack Draft Report – Dean Wolosiansky, Peter O’Brien, Taylor Featherston, Chris Henry, Jorge Lopez, Spencer Turnbull
College Summer Baseball listed another of its top 2010 summer performers and this time it was senior RHP Dean Wolosiansky of the West Virginia Miners/Ohio State Buckeyes.
Dean didn’t have the best 2010 for the Buckeyes (4-8, 5.45), but he sure as hell made up for it in summer ball with stats of: •5-1 •1.19 ERA (1st in league) •68 Inp (3rd in league) •44 Hits •25 Walks •54 Strikeouts (T 6th in league) •.190 Oba •9 Starts.
The 6-5, 225 pounder has not been on my list, so he enters it as the 147th best RHP available in the draft. No one has named him to a mock, but most of them highlighted the top guys only, or performances from last season, not summer and winter games.

The 10th ranked prospect in the on-going Toss It Around top-70 list is Bethune Cookman catcher, Peter O’Brien. He’s 6-5, 220, with enormous power. Sophomore season: 20-HR, 56-RBIs.
O’Brien has been shooting up the mock drafts in October and November. This is a kid that didn’t make the top 50 list of either Hickey or MLB Prospect, and was then named only 153rd by Draft Site.
Recently he was ranked 30th overall by 5-Tool, 9th overall by XMLBScout, and now 10th by T.I.O.
Listen… if scouting reports say that a 6-5 catcher has enormous power… well, trust me, he will be gone by the end of the second round. Maybe higher.

CBB awarded to SS Taylor Featherston the 75th ranked top college player in the country.
Featherston hails from Taylor High School, in Katy Texas and plays currently for TCU. Has defensive issues but does show considerable pop in the batting box. Had a .947 fielding percentage last season.
Right now, I have him as being only the 15th top shortstop in the draft, in a year where there is very little high projectable shortstops. Frankly, he has only been named in two mock drafts this “season” so far… 43rd in Toss It Around, and 117th by Draft Site.

Here’s a new name with a great velo history.
RHP Chris Henry was scouted as a 14-year old when he threw a 74-mph fastball. A year later, at 15, they clocked him at 81… and in 2009, when he was 16, it was 89.
Guess what he is now at 17? 91-94.
He’s currently adding secondary pitchers that include some serious sink. 6-0, 155… verbally committed to UNC…
We’ve had no info on Chris, and he hasn’t been picked by any of this year’s mock drafts. He enters our list as the 148th top RHP in the draft.

The great part about summer and winter tournaments is the fact that it gives an individual player the chance of being scouted nationally. Some of these kids just don’t get the initial exposure in their schools.
A perfect example is RHP Jorge Lopez, who burst on the scene around a month ago. He’s 6-4 and 165-pounds dripping wet and goes to school at the Academia la Milagrosa, in Cayey, Puerto Rico. Trust me, even Puerto Ricans aren’t sure where Cayey is.
Lopez throws an 89-91 fast ball and a good 73-75 curve with solid command, and a nasty 80-81 change-up.
He has been non-existent in the mock draft market , so he enters my list as the 149th top RHP in the nation. We’ll keep an eye on him and see if he moves up the list.

North Davidson High School (Lexington, NC) RHP Jordan Ramsey is another of those unsung heroes that hasn’t gotten much press during his high school career.
Ramsey is a 6-4, 180-pound righty that throws an 87-90 fastball, a sharp 68-70 curve, and a 75 changeup. He was recently named to the 2010 NC Baseball Coaches Association All-State Baseball Teams. He has committed to UNCW.
Like Lopez, he hasn’t been picked on any other the mock drafts, but that doesn’t mean he’s not going to be drafted. The mock draft process usually totals around 400 players. The draft… 1500+.
He starts off on my list as the 150th top RHP in the draft.

Got a tweet from Diamond Scape Scouting… Quick Hit: Best kept Jupiter secrets: '11 RHP Spencer Turnbull (Madison Central HS, Madison, Miss.) not only sat 89-91 but hit 94.
There are a lot of new names coming out of the WWBA which is great. I hate writing about the same forty guys every day.
Turnbull, who had committed to Alabama (he was born in Demopolis), was sidelined for most of his junior year due to a wrist injury.
6-3, 210… also plays first base (doesn’t ever high school pitcher?)… 84-88 fastball, 11-5 curve, ¾ arm slot, an aggressive hitter with excellent bat speed… short, compact swing.
