Loux was drafted sixth overall in the draft by Arizona, but did not sign due to injuries no one seemed to know about. Don’t ya think if you were gonna pick someone this early in the draft, you would of stuck a thermometer in his arse?
He had bone chips removed from his right elbow in 2009, but he bounced back and went 11-2, 2.83 for Texas A&M after that procedure.
Arizona was granted a new first round pick in 2011 and Loux was declared a free agent. All of us in the draft business expected a lot of action and press on him since the draft but it just didn’t happen.
My sources… and we know what they are worth these days… said the bonus offered by Arizona was $2.4mil, and the injury issue involced his elbow, not his shoulder. They also said that Loux’s agency agreed to aloow his client to have a physical before signing the deal, which is basically unheard of.
Loux throws a sitting 94 fast ball, an 83 slider, a low 80s change up, and a 76-78 downer curve.
I had him as the 16th best RHP in the 2010 draft, which would have translated to a late first-round supplement pick.

If he’s not eligible to play, can he sign with someone as a free agent or does he have to wait until his name is called in the 2011 draft?
Fernandez pitched lights out in the WWBA last month, hitting 97 consistently. The fast ball sat in the 93-94 range, and he also tossed up an 81-mph changeup and a 80-83 curve (BA).
Mock Draft wise, I only have him as the 31st top RHP available, but there hasn’t been a mock draft released since his showing in the WWBA. 5-Tool had the best ranking (35th overall) while four major mocks didn’t list him at all.
One other bright not. He has shed over 30 pounds, coming in at 6-5, 220 for the WWBA.

Searcy High School RHP Dillon Howard has made the press this month, including an article by BA .
I have Howard as the 26th top RHP in the 2011 draft, which would place him in the 3rd round. He’s 6-3. 190 and throws a fast ball that has hit 95, a 76-78 12-6 curve with bite, and an 81-83 change-up. Throws a ¾ arm angle.
Dowside is tendency to be impatient and rush his pitches.
The late, great Andy Seiler had him as the 14th overall pick come June, while Sully Draft picked him 12th in July.
He pitched three scoreless innings in his WWBA outing, with 3-K, 1-H, and 1-BB.

Chavez starred this summer for the Bedford Bay Sox on the New England Collegiate Baseball Leauge, hitting .355/.518/.406 in 141-AB. He was drafted as a red-shirt sophomore this past draft in the 44th round, as a pitcher (95-mph fast-ball) , by the White Sox, but didn’t sign.
I simply didn’t have him in my notes and he enters my list as the 146th best RHP available in the 2011 draft.

I still have Lindor as only the third top shortstop in the draft; however, that includes earlier mock drafts where he was ranked much lower than he’s coming in now. PG has him as 17th pick overall and the next shortstop that ranked was Phillip Evans at 36th.
When was the last time you heard that a junior in high school is projected to stay at short when he makes it to the pros? That’s how good this kid plays this position.
He’s only 5-11, 170 but the switch-hitter has remarkable slap power for his size. Hits better on the right side.
Top shortstops are highly sought after and Lindor could easily wind up a protected pick in the 2011 draft.

Okay… your name is Austin Robichaux and you just finished your senior season at Notre Dame High School, in Crowley, Louisiana.
BA does a little blurb about you and you start getting some national coverage that basically past you buy most of your high school career.
You follow this with a super winter stint, showing the scouting world your 87-89 fastball that touches 90, and has movement, followed by a slurvy 75 curve.
Lastly, now dudes like me are jumping on the Robichaux bandwagon and you would figure that Austin needs to turn to his father to get the right advice about his baseball future, especially if he’s drafted in 2011.
Well, what if your father is the coach of the college team you committed to play 2011 for? That’s right, father Tony heads up the UL program that Austin committed to in July.
Would love to be a fly at that post-draft Sunday dinner.

The name Derek Fisher (Cedar Crest High School, Pennsylvania) meant nothing to us until we found it as the 199th pick on the October 1st Draft Site mock draft. Names this far down the mocks sometimes don’t resurface until day three of the draft, if at all.
Then, PG writes a blurb on October 29th about how Fisher ate up the East Coast Showcase in August, which included a 400+ home run into a strong Jupiter, Florida wind.
All of a sudden Babe Ruth was playing Florida winter ball and everyone was willing to look past other aspects of his game that didn’t stand out.
Look, you get a big bat hitting 400+ home runs into the wind, you write the name down.
This was followed by work outs for the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies.
Just takes one swing, guys.

Newport High School (Bellevue, Washington) RHP Cole Wiper first got out attention on day two of the TOS in June, He put together an impressive outing, mixing up an 89-92 fastball, a slower 8385 version of the same pitch, and a 78-mph curve. The curve needed work, but the fastball was straight with some arm side run.
Next came the Under Armour All-American games (yes, Dads of the world… if you want your kid drafted, get his but to as many of these programs you can go to), where he pitched okay and added a low-80s slider. The down side was the fast ball remained up which cost him a few times.
Wiper has some work to do this season, but the raw talent is there.
I currently have him as the 70th top RHP in the draft, which would make him a day two pick.So far, he has not been named to any of the 2011 mock drafts.

Morgan (Brentwood, TN): Jim, being from Middle TN, I have heard alot about Vanderbilt RHP Sonny Gray. What kind of stuff does he have, and where do you see him going in the 2011 draft?
Jim Callis: Plus sinker, plus curveball. The big question with him is whether he can hold up as a starter at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds. He'll go in the top 10 picks of the draft.
