Dunedin High shortstop Casey Turgeon became the school's all-time hits leader Tuesday night during the Falcons' 10-0 home win over Largo. The University of Florida-bound senior broke the record with his second hit of the game, allowing him to eclipse Brian Dopirak's previous high-water mark of 128. Dopirak graduated from Dunedin in 2002 and was drafted in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. He is now with the Houston Astros organization. Turgeon now owns three spots in the Dunedin record book, Coach Tom Hilbert stated via text message Friday afternoon. The others are career runs, with 157, and career walks, with 133. Both records were held by Jake Rogers, who graduated after the 2008 state championship season and was drafted in the 29th round by the Boston Red Sox. Turgeon's numbers shatter both previous marks for runs (118) and walks (94). - http://suncoastpinellas.tbo.com/content/2011/apr/22/baseball-turgeon-becomes-dunedins-all-time-hits-le/areasports/
Casey Turgeon is a 2011 MIF with a 5-9 155 lb. frame from Palm Harbor, FL who attends Dunedin HS. Small framed slender build, has deceptive strength. Left handed hitter, hard load and hand hitch, very quick hands, lift in swing, power approach, has present bat speed, ball jumps hard, shows his power, good feel for hitting. 6.98 runner, good body control on defense, quick feet, gets in position, quick release, best suited for second base but played third base well, too. Nice all around player. Verbal commitment to Florida - http://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerprofile.aspx?ID=178911
Dunedin shortstop Casey Turgeon was selected in the 22nd round (672nd overall) by the Mets on Tuesday. Turgeon, who has signed with Florida, was an all-county and all-conference selection the past four years. This season he hit .400 with four home runs and drew 40 walks. He owns the school record for hits, walks and runs in his career. If he opts to sign with the Mets, Turgeon would join his brother, Erik, in the same organization. Erik Turgeon was the Mets 25th round selection in 2008 and currently pitches for the club's Double-A affiliate in Binghamton. - http://www.tampabay.com/hometeam/blog/dunedins-casey-turgeon-goes-22nd-round-mets/9871/
