The St. Lucie Mets made it three wins in a row with a 9-0 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs Tuesday morning at Digital Domain Park. The win puts the Mets at 37-32 on the season with only one game remaining in the first half of the FSL season.
Darin Gorski got the start for the Mets and was lights out. Gorski cruised through six innings allowing only one hit while striking out six en route to his fifth win on the season. St. Lucie put the game out of reach early, jumping all over each of the three Stone Crab pitchers. Already leading, 1-0, Stefan Welch made it a 4-0 game with his ninth home run of the season, a three-run blast in the third inning. Rylan Sandoval had himself a day at the plate, hitting two home runs on the day. One, a Grand Slam in the sixth inning and followed it up with a solo shot in the eighth inning to cap off the Mets scoring in the 9-0 win.
Gorski improved to 5-0 on the season while lowering his FSL leading ERA to 1.57 with his six shutout innings. Estarlin Morel tossed two scoreless frames and John Church pitched a perfect ninth to complete the one-hit shutout of the Stone Crabs. Sandoval led the Mets offensively going 3-for-4 with two home runs, six RBI and two runs scored. Wilmer Flores had two hits and two runs scored and Juan Lagares chipped in with two hits and a run scored in the victory.
The Mets close out the first half of the season in Port Charlotte against the Stone Crabs Wednesday night. Jack Egbert gets the start for the Mets. Egbert is 0-2 with a 4.37 ERA and 12 strikeouts to four walks in five starts covering 22.2 innings.
