However, his defensive skills and current attitude seem to be holding him back right now. With Russell Martin’s lackluster play, it’s very possible the Yankees would have overlooked some of Montero’s defensive shortcomings if it meant adding his bat to an already potent lineup, but apparently Montero, disgruntled with having to remain in the minors, has had a bit of an attitude problem as of late. Words like “uninspired”, “bored”, and “lacking energy” have been used to describe his play this season, and it even resulted in a two game benching last week. In previous seasons, Montero has posted some solid numbers — double digit home runs, high batting average, decent walk rates, mid to low strikeout rates, and an ISO north of .220 each year. Unfortunately this year it’s almost the complete reverse, save for the batting average, and that, in turn, is frustrating the organization. On another team, he probably would have already been moved to first base and been up in the bigs, but with Mark Teixeira locked in, the Yankees don’t have that luxury. They also do not want to use him solely as a DH. If he makes the necessary adjustments, he could get a late season call up or there’s always the chance that the team deals him away. At this point, neither situation would be bad as both would result in his bat coming to the majors
Prince Fielder:

"I don't think the Yankees are gonna get him," Fielder told The News at the Bombers Boomer Broadway Softball Classic, a charity event at Yankee Stadium. "But I think if everything goes well on the other side, the Mets are one of those teams that if they get that situation all squared away, they could get him."
Austin Romine:

He projects as a slightly above-average hitting catcher with 15-20 home run potential with the ability to hit to all fields. At times he can struggle with the off-speed pitch, as he tends to swing freely at the slower stuff, which is why pitchers have given him steady doses of breaking stuff early and often in counts. He's a quick learner, which allows him to adjust his next at-bat or even later in the same at-bat -- very impressive to see that from a 22-year-old. His skills behind the plate are slightly behind his hitting ability, though. At 6-foot-0, 220 pounds, he's the size of a prototypical catcher, he handles the ball in the dirt well and his arm grades out as average. His potential to handle a big league staff is questionable at the moment. Romine definitely needs some refining with his receiving skills. More importantly, he'll need to improve his game-calling skills. That will come as he catches more innings and handles more experienced pitchers in the upper minors. Romine is a couple years away and there may not be room for him on the Yankees, but he's a young catching prospect who shouldn't be forgotten. He will eventually give an organization reason to promote him to the major league level and compete for an everyday job.

He's posted strong numbers this season at Triple-A, but the 30-year-old hasn't pitched in a big league game since 2008 and is unlikely to have much success
Nolan On Carlos:

SI.com's Jon Heyman linked the two on Monday afternoon, but Ryan was quick to shoot down the rumor. He also insisted that the Rangers are not interested in acquiring Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez. "I don't see that's an upgrade [to the Rangers' bullpen]," Ryan said. "And Beltran, you worry about his knee. And you're taking on an awful lot of salary." Trade talks around the major leagues should pick up in mid-July.
